I, for one, am very excited to see Buffalo State extending its campus to Grant Street (and hopefully one day beyond, other than parking lots). By now we are well aware that the new dorms are complete, which is a welcome sight in itself. But have you noticed that there are a series of amenities being built that flank both sides of the dorm?
On one side is a circular platform made of pavers, surrounded by barbecue pits. Next to that is a spot where a professional sand volleyball court is being created.
On the other side of the dorm, builders from Tonawanda General Concrete are currently adding the final touches on a small amphitheater with built-in grill stations.
On either side of the structure will be pavers (on top of the concrete) where there will most likely be patios.
All of these amenities look like they are specifically being built for the Buffalo State students, as they are all bounded by iron gating.
Hopefully WBNY 91.3 (Buffalo State’s alternative radio station) gets ahold of the stage for some public performances in the future. Either way, the new campus features look great, and will soon bring needed life to that stretch of Grant Street.
This is welcome news for the neighborhood. It just goes to show the potential that is still untapped in this important section of the street – a thoroughfare that acts as a bridge between the Lafayette Street area and the Amherst Street area of Grant Street.
