Cyclist Eric Curtis is promoting a bicycle race on Sunday July 28th. According to Eric, “the event takes place on the streets of downtown Buffalo; stretching from Niagara Square to the New Era Building and back. This multi lap event starts at 11:00am and runs to 7:00pm. The streets will be closed down for the safety of the riders and spectators. This is a family friendly event with category’s for the beginner to the professional and a kids’ race.
“This has been a bicycle race that existed in Buffalo cycling history for many years. From a racing and spectating standpoint, it is an incredible race! The course features over 10 turns and winds through some of the most scenic urban landscapes of Downtown Buffalo including City Hall and the McKinley Monument. Logistically, it is a tough race to pull off. Also, in years past, the road conditions were less than optimal for a bicycle race.
“This year, with construction fully completed on the new Federal Courthouse and with the City of Buffalo having freshly paved Niagara Square and many surrounding streets, it was a perfect opportunity to bring this race back to life! Two local cycling clubs, Buffalo 51 and EARC (East Aurora Racing Club) agreed to co-promote the event which is held on Sunday, July 28th, 2013.
“The local cycling community is excited to have this event back and we encourage people to come down and watch what will be an exciting, full day of racing action. It’s not every day you get to see a peloton of bicycle racers sprinting down Delaware Ave at 40 MPH!”
