US Post Office Removal of Postal Mail Boxes– The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Fillmore District Council Member David A. Franczyk, requesting that the United States Post Office in Buffalo report to the Council on why it has removed mail boxes on Buffalo’s east side and how this action will enhance mail service to the residents of the City of Buffalo. The resolution further requests that the United State Post Office in Buffalo provide the Council with a list of the mail boxes that have been removed (or will be removed) from Buffalo neighborhoods in recent months and years, as well as reporting on how many boxes (and their locations) will be left remaining in the City of Buffalo. The Council is not in support of diminished United States Post Office services, including the removal of Postal Mail boxes in the City of Buffalo.
Free Prescription Discount Plan – The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Council President and Lovejoy District Council Member Richard A. Fontana, showing its support for the Integrity Rx Discount Drug Card and encouraging all residents of Erie County and the eight surrounding counties to take advantage of this free prescription discount plan.
Perry Choice Neighborhood Transformation Plan – The Council approved a resolution, sponsored by Fillmore District Council Member David A. Franczyk, approving the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority (BMHA) Perry Choice Neighborhood Plan and granting an Option Agreement for properties in the Ellicott community near the AD Price complex.
Support of an Urban Initiatives Grant Application– The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Fillmore District Council Member David A. Franczyk, approving the Urban Initiatives application being submitted by Broadway-Fillmore Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. to improve their non-profit’s offices and affordable rental unit at 780 Fillmore Avenue. The organization intends to make improvements in energy-efficiency, accessibility, stormwater diversion, and other building upgrades to better serve the needs of the residents in Buffalo’s east side.
Approve Lt Matt Urban Human Service Center Grant Application– The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Fillmore District Council Member David A. Franczyk, approving the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center’s grant application to the New York State Housing and Community Renewal Agency for The Matt Urban HOPE House.
2013 Greater Buffalo Italian Heritage and Food Festival – The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Delaware District Council Member Michael J. LoCurto, granting permission to the North Buffalo Community Development Corp., Hertel-North Buffalo Business Association and the West Side Business and Taxpayers Association Inc. to jointly conduct the 2013 Greater Buffalo Italian Heritage and Food Festival to be held on Hertel Avenue from August 1 to August 4, 2013.
Neighborhood Watch and Block Club Training – The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Ellicott District Council Member Darius G. Pridgen, requesting that every Neighborhood Watch Organization and Block Club recognized by the City of Buffalo conduct training by December 31, 2013 and that the Board of Block Clubs in collaboration with the Commission on Citizens’ Rights & Community Relations and the Department of Citizen Services prepare the required training for the organizations.
Permission to Hang Banners for Hispanic Heritage Month – The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Ellicott District Council Member Darius G. Pridgen, granting permission to the Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York Inc. to hang a street banner at the north side of Maryland and Niagara Streets from September 1 through October 15, 2013 in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Butler Mitchell Clubhouse Renovation Project – The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Niagara District Council Member David A. Rivera, showing its support for the Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo’s Consolidated Funding Application for the Butler Mitchell Clubhouse Renovation Project and pledging to work with the Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo to ensure the renovation is successful.
Vision Niagara Application for New York Main Street Program – The Council adopted a resolution, sponsored by Niagara District Council Member David A. Rivera, fully supporting Vision Niagara’s application to the New York Main Street Program and showing its commitment to assisting the effort to revitalize Niagara Street.
Trailblazing Sign – Deacon Levi Clayton – The Council approved a resolution, sponsored by Majority Leader and Masten District Council Member Demone A. Smith, approving the installation of a trailblazing sign at the corners of Longview and East Delavan Avenue proclaiming the area as “Deacon Levi Clayton Way.”

Smith, approving the installation of a trailblazing sign at the corners of Northland and Humboldt Parkway proclaiming the area of Northland between Jefferson and Humboldt Parkway as “Vera Medley Foster Way.”
