Moments ago I received and email from William (Bill) Kresse, Principal City Honors School, notifying me that the first of the Woodson Houses has been demolished, and that the rest of the units will come down within a month’s time (learn more).
Along with the news of the demolition, Bill also relayed some of his thoughts regarding the need for the return of Fosdick Field to the school. “My perspective is that this is coming from the ingrained assumption that city kids should have a field for every 5 or 6 schools and suburban kids should have 5 or 6 fields for each school,” Bill lamented. “I don’t know if we can ever completely overcome that disparity, but if we can create one more field for the kids of the Buffalo Schools to share, then we need to do it. Constant limitations caused by fifteen high schools and many more middle schools competing for use of Wiley, All-High and Riverside Fields is not something we should find an acceptable arrangement for kids. And yes, this will be a shared use Buffalo Public School Field. One of the things we are really good at in Buffalo is sharing our athletic fields.”
