La Tavola (The Table), Hertel’s latest entry in the North Buffalo restaurant scene, is only a matter of a couple of weeks away from opening. I spoke to owners Victor Cali (former pizzeria owner) and Patrizio Gentile (owner of Gecko’s on Hertel), who told me that customers will be treated with homemade seasonal offerings, Neapolitan pizzas, pasta fagioli and ever-changing specials. Chef Chris Luccari has come onboard to make sure that guests are treated with house specialties that include homemade pasta (build your own dish) and even Italian creations with a Creole spin.
I noticed that Globe on Hertel & North Park seems to be retiring what was left of the "corner store" aspect of it, replacing the merchandise shelves with more tables. Kind of disappointing to me. Corner grocery stores are important for walkable urbanism.
It sounds as though La Tavola will be serving authentic pizza, not the American versions you typically find in a neighborhood pizzeria. I think these La Tavola will be in a much higher league than everyone else serving pizza.
i wish them luck but I don't know how they are going to compete with the other pizza establishments already dominating the scene within an earshot of this place....Zip's Wise Guys...Daddios come to mind first, not to mention Bob and Slobs and La Pizza Club....I think Vapor Lounge is even serving the thin crust variety these days. Buffalo loves its pizza though
I hear that this is another restaurant type cafe that specializes in selling gourmet olive oils coming to the old Gino's location. I will be glad to see a new fresh business on this corner.
I walked by this place the other day when the doors were open the inside looks really nice! Looking forward to trying it. On a side note - does anyone know what's going in at the old Gino's Bakery location? That's really the start of the commercial strip.
