Buffalo from Space

Leave a commentVery cool! I suspect a lot of people will have new computer wallpaper tomorrow.
The eastside looks pretty dark at night. The westside is nice and bright.
What are you calling the east side? The whole thing looks pretty bright all the way out to that north/south line which I imagine is... Transit? Now, south of the city... is that a smudge on the window or is that just south Buffalo? The entire picture is clear except just south of the city.
I thought that bright line was Main St. but it hard to tell.
No, you can follow Main Street from Niagara Square up to where it jogs at Ferry and then where it heads due east, basically at UB South. You can pretty much judge the airport by the pattern, and then infer Transit is the bright N/S line just east of the airport. Really the only dark spot is the smudge to the south of the city. If you look really hard, you can almost make out the dark spot where HarborCenter is going to be.
Wow, I can pick up those racial undertones...not a surprise from OFW.
I'm sure you can if you are a racist or an ass.
"I'm sure you can if you are a racist or an ass."
Which are you?

Chris is a great guy and actually grew up not too far from Buffalo - in Milton, ON. His window to the US were Buffalo television stations.
His parents still live there and they've named a school after him: http://chr.hdsb.ca
I found someone labeled some spots to help reference.http://i.imgur.com/G4hBl5y.png
This is mesmerizing! Love how you can pick out individual stuff & streets, like Ferry Street, Rich Products, UB, D'Youville, airport, etc. There's even a lake effect band over South Buffalo and the southtowns!
This image demonstrates how the Buffalo-Niagara metropolitan area really includes a larger area/population than one would suspect from the official population stats (because of the international border). Admittedly, the border (especially post-9/11) has become a real barrier to experiencing the whole region--but a Nexus card and the Whirlpool Bridge eliminate a lot of that hassle.
What is that opaque oval image at the bottom, right of the screen? Is it a reflection of the moon? What is that bright roadway to the right? Is it Bailey or Harlem?

That's awesome. Easy to pick out the radial streets of Buffalo.
