There are more and more community gardens springing up around Buffalo thanks to the ongoing efforts of Grassroots Gardens. We've talked about all of the benefits that a community garden can bring to a neighborhood. At the same time, we mostly sit back and watch the gardens as they unfold, and cheer on the neighborhoods and the streets that are the benefactors of the grassroots projects. We never really give it much though as to what criteria determines where the gardens are placed, do we? Well, what if we could actually help to determine exactly where the next "Grassroots Garden" would be planted?
It just so happens that Grassroots Gardens is currently accepting applications from the public, for projects in 2013. The land in question must be privately owned, since the organization has ceased accepting applications for City-owned land until a longterm lease for public land can be arranged with The City. If you are in possession of a plot of land that you feel would benefit from being the recipient of a public garden initiative, the time is now to apply to Grassroots Gardens. Once you've made the decision to move forward, you need to grab hold of a 2013 New Community Garden Packet, and then fill out the application and return to GG office by Feb. 28th, 2013. The information packet can be downloaded here: GGB Application 2013
On Wednesday, February 13th the Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo office will be open late to offer assistance to community members interested in applying to start a new community garden through Grassroots Gardens. Workers will be in the office until 7pm to answer questions and offer assistance with the application. If you plan on attending, please call the office 716 783-9653 to let someone at GG know.

Awesome.Let's get together and put one at the Best St off ramp on 33.Sunflowers and Morning Glories this year for the Phytoremediation aspect.With some planning $50 dollars and a few volunteers,the 50,000 people who pass it everyday will be quite happy.I'm sure there will be much positive feedback.The Buffalo Garden Walk is the largest of it's kind.This would be the best advertising and all will benefit.
