Grassroots Gardens: Now it's your turn
Comments
Leave a commentGrassroots is one of the best places to send divisions from your garden. As gardeners we know, as much as we hate to do it, plants need to be thinned to remain healthy. How many times have I said, "I paid 15 bucks for this plant now I'm hacking more than what I initially planted off"... The best thing to do if you don't have plant exchange partners is to call grassroots or similar organizations and offer them the plants. I have many plants in city gardens that have come from my yard. It is a great feeling. Especially since they didn't wind up as compost!
A wonderful idea for those who have the spare time. It is hard enough finding time to tend to your own gardens. It is even harder to get owners to take care of curb strips in front of their homes or properties. I applaud all the volunteers that make these lots come to life.
Same for the circles or roundabouts on Richmond Ave. and McKinley Pkwy. I've seen many people dead heading flowers and maintaining plantings in those circles.
Speaking of which, last night I drove down Richmond Ave from Kleinhans and the main light post at the Porter-Richmond Circle and Richmond-W.Ferry Circle each had 3 to 4 of its lights out. Who is responsible for those? The City or National Grid?
I have time.Middle of May or so.I have the Sunflower seeds here, about 4 packs of 20 seeds for a total of 8 dollars. It can't get any cheaper! Just a few volunteers for 1-2 hrs on a weekend morning.Yes it is that easy.Let's not make it hard.

Awesome.Let's get together and put one at the Best St off ramp on 33.Sunflowers and Morning Glories this year for the Phytoremediation aspect. With some planning $50 dollars and a few volunteers, the 50,000 people who pass it everyday will be quite happy.I'm sure there will be much positive feedback. The Buffalo Garden Walk is the largest of it's kind. This would be the best advertising and all will benefit.
yes. flowers are like ice cream for the eyes...
