Have you ever thought about becoming a Big Brother or Big SIster to a young person in need of a friend/role model? There are so many young people looking for someone to look up to, and at the same time there are people who have the ability to simply be a friend to someone who could really use some support. "As a Big Sister or Big Brother you enjoy seeing how much your Little benefits from the time you spend together but, in the back of your mind, you also know there are 200 kids that are still waiting for this opportunity," shared Christine Farrow, BBBSEC Board Member, Big Mirror Initiative Chairperson and Big Sister mentor. "It just seemed a natural fit for those of us who know firsthand how rewarding mentoring can be to work together to find more volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters."
On January 31st event at Més Que, located at 1420 Hertel Avenue in Buffalo, seasoned Bigs will come together to share their experiences when it comes to the roles that they play. It's a chance to ask questions about what it's like to be a Big, and the effect that it has on a Little. "Our mentors on the Big Mirror Committee felt sharing what they do in a fun and relaxed setting would be more appealing than a basic information session," explained Thomas Guagliardo, BBBSEC's CEO. "We can't applaud this group enough for the volunteer time they spend with their Little Brother or Sister and to give additional hours to help match other at-risk children, that is pretty amazing. Many of the Bigs involved have been matched for more than the required year and have incredible stories to share!"
