This is the first year that the recreational sport of broomball has been introduced to Olmsted Park's Flurrious! winter festival. The festival is set to take place on Saturday January 26, 2013, with a ton of fanfare due to a stepped up set of outdoor activities, some of which are predetermined tournaments and others that are meant for pick-up. Broomball will be a combination of both - a number of the teams have signed up, but organizers are also expecting to accommodate anyone who wants to play, but can't field an entire team. We have a bunch of players who are looking for others to play with.
Now that there's some snow on the ground, we are looking at having a wild and wintery festival. If you've been thinking about putting together a team, or you've got a couple of friends who want to play, but you need more players to field a team, there are plenty of opportunities to play... plus, organizers have decided to provide some brooms for players who can't muster any up - brooms are $5 at stores such as Big Lots (and tape is cheap). Regardless as to whether you already have a team organized, or you are looking to join a team, please send an email here and we'll get you on your way to playing*.
-Broomball registration begins at 10am
-Dress appropriately - the broomball field is located directly next to the heated beer tent... nice!
-Some brooms will be provided - if you have a broom bring it. First players to respond are ensured brooms. If you can get a broom, it's better to have one that you can take from game to game. A few teams with brooms have already signed up.
-If you would like to field an entire team, you would need at least six players
-This year the broomball tournament will be more for fun*... and it will be played on a snow covered field (not ice or parking lot)
-Each game should last 40 minutes
-Round robin elimination
-Number of games depend on final number of teams
*If you have ever been a broomball referee, and would like to help out to ensure smooth play on Saturday, we would love to have you sign up as a ref!
Following is the Flurrious! schedule - Saturday, January 26, 2013
