Feed the City

Feed the City
Did you know that last year's inaugural Feed the City event raised enough money to purchase 200,000lbs of food for those in need? That's a significant milestone, that if duplicated each year goes far towards reaching the goals of its beneficiary - Food Bank of Western New York.

Feed the City is a benefit concert with an impressive line-up of musicians being headlined by front man Ian Hunter of legendary band Mott the Hoople (All the Young Dudes, Once Bitten Twice Shy), along with Buffalo's The Pillagers, Canadian national recording artist Ruby Spirit and other special guests. "This concert is all about taking care of families that need help right here in our community.  Every dollar raised allows us to buy 8 pounds of food through Feeding America's Network," said Gary Zoldos, event creator and lead vocalist of the Pillagers. "Based on the success of last year's inaugural event and having a rock & roll legend like Ian Hunter performing as this year's headliner, we look forward to raising even more money to benefit the Food Bank of Western New York."

Tickets are only $28.00 in advance ($35.00 at the door) and are available at the Town Ballroom box office or www.tickets.com. Saturday, December 8th at the Town Ballroom, 681 Main Street in Buffalo, New York. Doors will open at 6pm. See Facebook for details, along with all of the amazing auction items.

Can't say I've ever heard of "Mott the Hoopie" or Ian Hunter.

It's 'Hoople'. Are you young? When I heard they had him playing, I was impressed. However, apparently, I'm pretty old.

I'm 36 so I wouldn't say I am young and I'm pretty musically knowledgeable, I've just never heard of them, what genre of music is it?

Fact: You are not musically knowledgeable at all.

You've heard 'all the young dudes', even though you may not recognize it. As a kid, I listened to Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, Joe Jackson... a couple of Springsteen's band members played on 'You're never alone with a Schizophrenic', which was one of Ian Hunter's more popular CDs. At some point in your past you probably heard 'just another night' from this CD.

I'd put Hunter in with those I mentioned, but he's slightly older. The Drew Carey show started with Cleveland Rock's, it was his song...but for the tv show it may have been covered by another band.

Ian Hunter is 73 (!) and his new CD "When I am President" IMHO ranks among the best rock albums of 2012.

Thanks for the insight benfranklin - I have in fact heard that song but didn't know who sang it. Kind of like a Beatles sound...never been my thing.

Great event for the city though, I hope that it continues to grow every year! More and more people are in need these days. Kudos to Gary Zoldos and crew for making it happen.

Did anyone read the PARADE article featuring Howard G. Buffett (one of Warren Buffett's sons) as "The Good Farmer"? "One man's crusade to stamp out hunger in America. And how you can help."

Hmmm. Could this Buffett provide the supply for Ian Hunter's demand? Fulfilling a sort of Supply & Demand...
