日本HPがDWH事業を強化へ、ソフトウェアの単体展開も
日本ヒューレット・パッカードは12月19日、データウェアハウス（DWH）ソフトウェア製品の最新版「HP Vertica Analytics Platform 6.1」と、同製品を中核としたビジネスを担う「Vertica事業本部」の設立を発表した。アプライアンス製品中心のDWH市場でソフトウェア主体のソリューションも展開するという。
Verticaは2011年にHPが買収したビジネス分析ソフトウェアの企業。12月1日付でHPとの統合が完了し、HPのソフトウェア事業として運営される。日本HPもこれを受けてVertica事業本部を設立した。なお、同社では2011年夏からVerticaと同社サーバを組み合わせたDWHアプライアンスを販売している。
会見した常務執行役員 HPソフトウェア事業統括の中川いち朗氏は、「DWHと言えばアプライアンスだが、既存のハードウェア資産を活用したい、スモールスタートやクラウドなど利用形態に縛られたくないといった企業ニーズが強くある。ソフトウェア単体でも提供することで、こうしたニーズを獲得したい」と話した。
製品特徴についてVertica事業本部 プリセールス担当の相澤恵奏氏は、カラム型データベースの特性を生かした高速検索やデータの高圧縮率、シェアードナッシング方式を採用しての柔軟な拡張性とパフォーマンスの向上、ノードがダウンしてもサービスを継続する信頼性、データベースパフォーマンスを自動チューニングする機能などを挙げる。
最新版の6.1では新たにHDFSのデータをVerticaに直接取り込める新機能を搭載したほか、R言語による分析機能の強化、Amazon Web ServicesのEC2への対応を図った。競合製品はTeradataやIBM Neteeza、EMC Green Plumだといい、相澤氏は「カラム型ならでは高い性能とスケールアウトが可能な点で差別化を図りたい」と述べた。
最新版製品の参考販売価格は882万円で、同日から販売を開始した。また、VerticaとマイクロストラレテジーのBIツール、HPのサーバを組み合わせた「Vertica Start Package」も1048万9500円で販売する。
販売戦略についてセールス担当の後藤丈治氏は、「既存のDWHのリプレース需要と、新規顧客として通信事業者やメーカー、金融、ゲーム業界の企業を獲得したい」と表明。同社の直接販売とパートナー販売を展開しつつ、BIベンダーやETLベンダーとの協業も拡大すると説明している。
