It wasn't long ago that City and Country first opened in Allentown on Franklin Street
in a wonderfully chic and newly refurbished storefront. That's why I was so surprised when the shop picked up and moved after being in the location for just a couple of months. Obviously owner Patrick Monfort couldn't pass up the opportunity to take over a newly opened storefront on Allen, even though he had already spent an apparent ton of time and energy outfitting the Franklin Street location. The reason for the move appears to be twofold. First, the exposure on Allen is better. Second, the new location is now directly next door to Patrick's salon called East End
. In the end it's a brilliant move, though being a former retail store owner I can't imagine that the transition was an easy one.
Now onto our gift selection from the NEW City and Country store located at 43 Allen Street...
There's something about these handcrafted birdhouse gourds that are both whimsical and earth friendly. I love the simplistic creations that are grown and crafted in Carlisle, PA. The shapes and the colors are appealing to the eye, while the functional design is perfect for housing Purple Martins and woodpeckers (among other birds). As bird populations continue to plummet in the face of climate changes, habitat loss, etc. It's important that we do our part to offer protection to the many bird varieties that call Buffalo home. These gourd birdhouses (and butterfly houses) make great gifts for the nature lovers in your life. The prices range from $20 for a small house to $30 for a large one.
While you're shopping at City and Country, don't forget to purchase the locally made gift cards from Mundo Images and Rust Belt Press. Also make sure you take a gander at Patrick's amazing holiday display windows at East End salon... the windows
are very clever and creative (as always). As for City and Country, the gift shop is the perfect addition to Allentown and has tons of excellent unique offerings.
