Paint is "On the house"

Paint is “On the house”
A freshly painted house can go a long way in neighborhood that is trying to keep up with appearances. As our collective neighborhoods continue to make progress on different grassroots fronts, it's the basics such as planting community gardens and painting houses that will ultimately make the biggest differences. After all, a new bakery or a coffee shop moving into an area is nice, but the residential neighborhoods must continue to galvanize as well.

The Black Rock Foundation has come up with a great way to help low income home owners to make incremental improvements to their homes. This particular program provides qualifying homeowners* with free exterior paint, in order to alleviate the costs of major painting jobs. If the homeowners can figure out the labor, then the paint is "on the house" - not a bad deal. I know a couple of houses on my street that could benefit from this program...

Free paint programs have been around Buffalo for decades.

But they've been spread very thin.

Yeah, I think I recall hearing my neighbor benefited from it. Hence the lovely mint green color of the Cottage Street Lofts.

Paint programs that have been around for decades need to be stirred VERY thoroughly before using.

With another look at the picture, I wonder if they're trying to make some kind of statement about the 2005 Erie County budget debacle.

Buffalo is not some colorful african or caribean local with bright colors in the reds and oranges.

Ouch this hurts my eyes just looking at it

Its great their painting to preserve their home but that color is neither stately or subtle nor does it blend with the surrounding environment. It looks like someon through spaghetti sauce all over it....and thats the nicest way I could say it.

Its hideous

Have you ever sought out medication for your condition? You might be amazed at the relief it would offer you (and us, by extension).

You spelled hideous correct. And that's about all I can say about your grammar or spelling.

Scandinavians use bright colors too.It helps in Northern lataitudes with long, dark nights in winter.I must agree however that it isnt well done at all.

I wonder where I can find a primer on painting--?

A zesty uplift!

Perhaps a free paint initiative can spread to the Elmwood Ave. block (between Allen and Virginia) on the same side as the Fire Marshall's office with the unattended landscaping and constantly littered frontage.

When those Victorian houses were in their more glorious days they were featured in a Painted Ladies book.

I prefer the red & lime green to the boring pastel!

Paint isn't expensive. It's labor the knowing how to paint (and just doing it) that really makes a difference! And having a long ladder. I've been wanting to paint my garage, and I bought the paint, then realized I didn't have a ladder long enough to reach the top......not in the budget to buy the kind of ladder I need.

You can rent a ladder FYI, getting it home may be a challenge though.

Are you serious? I'm up to $65.00 per gallon for Sherwin Williams and more for Benjamin Moore.

Perhaps not everyone’s color choice but the house is being painted after all and there is nothing wrong with being more colorful!
