Brewing, roasting, playing, creating... building Buffalo

Leave a commentFunny. I went to one of the Saturday events and had the exact opposite experience. I found almost every vendor inviting and very willing to greet me and talk about their wares. At 1pm, the pulled pork sandwiches were selling [and delicious!] and the small combo was going full swing.
The Foundry is becoming a mecca for artists of hand-crafted goods and its future plans [clearly outlined on a board for all to see] are good news for the arts community.
I did attend some time ago, hopefully my criticism is no longer valid.
I had to read this article a few times to figure out what the Foundry actually is. But I realize now this isn't the author's fault; this place just seems to have a vague purpose.
We are not going to rebuild Buffalo with places like this.
That's not all that's in there.
It's also the headquarters of ReUse Action, a green demo/deconstruction company. They carefully dismantle houses and sell the lumber & other quality salvaged materials.
Rusted Grain is in there too. They re-mill reclaimed wood into new uses.
Wow, hater here is hating. Read the article a few more times. Shared tools and equipment for people who make things. Not a very difficult concept.
BTW what kind of places are you developing to rebuild Buffalo?
This kind of mixed-use, out-of-the-box, local establishments are EXACTLY how we are going to rebuild Buffalo.
Don't forget authentic, organic AND built to the curb!
Queenseyes, I can't tell what The Foundry is from your article.
is this another grant project from Barnard to help poor people in the "hood"?
we're just getting rolling...but we have over 24 vendors signed on for tomorrow...by far our biggest slate of artisans in our short 5 month history.
here's a more concise statement re: what we're about...
The Foundry, located at 298 Northampton Street in MidCity Buffalo, is a hotbed of innovation, entrepreneurship, and community-focused action. The Foundry, 298 Northampton Street, Buffalo New YorkOver the next year, this 30,000 square foot building is being transformed into:
Workshop and office space for artists, artisans, tradespeople, and small businesses
A multi-function community space for performance, education and public gatherings
A neighborhood anchor institution for artistic expression, creative exchange, and the encouragement of new ideas and productive action.
Hope to see you Saturday!
Cheers.
It's a mystery, free spirit critical mass a la The Yard over on Tonawanda Street......never really understood that deal either but the DJ's they had scratching were always cool.....I actually loved the idea of the Yard but never fully could grasp who owned or organized it
Second Saturdays! An AWESOME event this past weekend!
Check out the photos and invite your friends and family to our December event. Onward!
The entire Foundry Crew

I second that. It was good to see the crowds and to check out what the vendors are offering. It was also somehow fitting that Michael Gainer is back in his old space!

Attempting to be constructive here....
I've been to this on a prior Saturday. I went there with the intention of spending money. It was about 2:00, but the food hadn't started yet.
My take away from it was the vendors have some interesting things, but they need to be a bit more...well...receptive to people walking up to them. It has a 'hipster' kind of feel, where they seem to be more interested in the other vendors.
I get that if they were more 'commercially inclined', they'd be at the Galleria. May sound straight from Wall Mart, but I'd put a person at the front greeting people, and explaining what's where (vendors there, food there, band will be there in ten minutes).
