By now you may have seen a new business sign go up across the street from The Co-op. It’s a business called Zetouna, which specializes in carrying importing products from Tunisia. Owner Sonia Ayadi first came to Buffalo to attend school at D’Youville where she studied international business. That is what ultimately led her to begin importing products such as wooden bowls and spoons, olive oils, couscous, olives, and foutas (wraps, towels, blankets), among other items into the United States.
For quite some time Sonia’s primary importing business, Trimex Global, LLC, has been supported by orders from The Co-op and Premier Gourmet. Her sales of olive oils to the two heavy hitting local businesses prompted her to think about possible directions that she could take her business.
Over time Sonia developed a fairly large following of loyal customers to her brand, which presented a tempting business opportunity. Ultimately Sonya decided that it might be a good idea to open up a retail shop where she could also conduct her wholesale operation. It was a small empty retail storefront across from The Co-op that caught her eye and finally sealed the deal, thus Zetouna was born.
