Ward's Island - Car Crash Video

Ward’s Island - Car Crash Video
At the same time that many Buffalo Bills fans were contemplating throwing their TVs out of the window yesterday, there was an actual demolition taking place outside of The Hotel @ The Lafayette. No, it wasn't a building that was being demolished, although that wouldn't have been a big surprise to anyone. Instead there was a car crash scene being filmed for the production of a werewolf movie called Ward's Island starring Dennis Haysbert, Ernie Hudson, Craig Scheffer, Bill Duke and Ariana Richards.

Thankfully I decided to head over to watch the crash instead of watching the second half of the game. When I got the site where the filming was taking place, there was a substantial crew going over safety procedures in preparation for the collision that was about to take place. The film hired a number of extras and crew from Buffalo - between 50 to 100 depending on the day. As the crew got busy securing the shoot, a number of curious Buffalonians scrambled to find safe viewing areas. Here's what the car crash looked like from atop a balcony at the hotel...

I wonder if Dennis Haysbert will come out and say, "should have had Allstate"

So you are trying to tell me cars don't actually flip over like that when they hit another car from the rear and that it is all just a TV stunt with a ramp?

About a month ago on Hertel near Starin on a Sunday morning, a SUV clipped the side/rear of an old Corvette, and the SUV did roll over.

So in order to flip, generally a ramp... or, a very low car with an impacting vehicle with a very high center of gravity (and a drunk driver).

I wonder if we'll ever get to the point where car crashes can happen in movies and NOT include the ol' ramp & flip...

Never. Didn't the television program "CHiPs" demonstrate quite clearly every week that cars invariably fly through the air and burst into flame with every accident?

Worked on the project and got to meet a lot of the cast and crew. All super nice people.

I saw Bill Duke and some of the other cast members filming in the Japanese Garden behind the the historical society on Saturday night as well. They were all wearing tuxedos. Made it look like some sort of wedding scene.

would have been more fun to watch to car crash than the train wreck.

I recently saw To Live And Die In LA and Ronin, two movies with incredible car chase scenes, and I had to laugh at both for using so many junky rental cars to fill out the traffic. The only difference was the former had GM cars and the latter had Renaults or whatever. The more traffic a movie car chase scene has, the cheaper the cars get. This clip is no different, white ex-rental cars no doubt. Think about it, how many Jaguars or Mercedes, or funky old VW vans even, show up in car chase scenes where they get hit? NEVER
