Are you ready to think sustainable on October 13th, 2012?

WNYSEA is bringing BRO readers a daily article about green buildings in Buffalo. Each green building will be available for you to see for FREE on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the WNY Solar Homes and Green Buildings Tour from 10am - 4pm. While this tour is not limited to the city itself, it is very important to give a HUGE cheer to the city of Buffalo because there are so many great projects within the city limits. For a full list of tour sites go to www.wnysea.com.

Today's Spotlight: The NFTA Green Roof Bus Shelter (see story)

WNYSEA is thrilled to see this green living roof on the tour this year. This is a giant step in the right direction for our city!
You can see Buffalo's first green roof bus shelter on October 13th.

"A demonstration project for NFTA utilizing an existing bus shelter. In the last year NFTA has installed about 100 PV (photovoltaics) systems on bus shelters. This is the first green (living) roof!" - eco_logic STUDIO

WNYSEA is holding our kickoff awards ceremony at 9:30am on Saturday, October 13th at the Hispanics United of Buffalo. The address is 254 Virginia and all are welcome to come. WNYSEA will be giving an award to both Hispanics United of Buffalo and University at Buffalo for their leadership in promoting sustainability in the region. Refreshments and prizes will be available. Also, the NFTA has donated several day passes to WNYSEA for the tour date. You can pick one up at the kickoff party. Thanks to the NFTA for their contribution!

Stupidest thing I've seen....next to some of the modern artt projects.
Nfta has money for green roofs but not a badly needed extension of light rail. I'm not talking big.how about just 1 station...say...to connect the Lark in District. That would put us 1 step closer to the Central terminal and airport.

Instead we get...green roofs. Nut jobs. From September to may....Buffalo does not suffer from global warming

I don't think you quite understand the difference between potting some plants on top of a bus stop and completely rebuilding a rail system.

I'm guessing there's a slight difference in price.

A waste of money is extending a train 1 mile down a road that barely has traffic to begin with.

paulsobo: "Buffalo does not suffer from global warming."

Maybe you don't understand the meaning of the word "global"...

...but if you're stuck in a local mindset, there are indeed ways buffalo could suffer- how about even more combined sewer overflows than we already have, leading to dangerous conditions for lakes and rivers. Or warmer temperatures leading to the water freezing later, leading to more freak lake effect storms. There's more to it than polar icecaps.

not to mention the collapse of agriculture as pests previously confined to warmer climates migrate north, and indigenous pollinator species are wiped out, and weather extremes damage flowering crops...

A great, inexpensive way to highlight green technology. It not only will start people talking, its beautiful to look at.

It's a good thing!

Wonder if they can grow ivy or other clinging greenery on the unpainted, rusted walls of the Delavan-College train station to cover the ugliness.

Pure gimmickry.
