No, the Showplace Theater is not open. Nor is there any news regarding a reopening date. As much as I would love to have some news on timelines, there has been incremental progress pertaining to facade improvements that are now visible. A short while ago I asked the owner of Showplace Theater if he had any news to share on the reopening front. To that end, the owner is attempting to work toward obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy from The City. In the meantime, new seating has been purchased, and the hope is that, in the future, the venue will once again be home for concerts, comedy shows and other club-like events.

Seeing the latest set of facade upgrades, I am hopeful that it won't be long before we hear news of the Showplace Theater's reopening. With all of the business developments taking place on Amherst Street, opening of The Showplace would be a huge boost to ongoing resurrection efforts in Black Rock.

I could imagine the challenges so any change has to be positive, right? Is glass block cheaper, though? Or is it just because greater or lesser cost be damned, the windows are gonna be broken by punks? If that's the case then maybe the neighbor to the right has the correct idea with the roll-down steel door... which seemingly they have in place to protect.... nothing?

Seemingly nothing? Isn't it seemingly possible the roll-down door is trying to prevent theft of metal (plumbing, etc), and/or other parts of that building's interior?
Then, by that measure, shouldn't your home and mine have roll-down steel doors?
LT, regardless of commercial or residential, any building 'should' have any legal types of proactive security as an owner wants of course.
I'd think a vacant building like next to Showplace has more risk of metal thefts than if occupied, and also being in a relatively isolated spot like that end block of Grant with very little night traffic adds risk too.

I could be mistaken but I thought it is. Regardless, there's also non-vacant buildings in Buffalo using roll-downs (Fam Dollar at Forest/Grant for one maybe? ...probably there's quite a few in different areas)
But wondering - what business is next to Showplace if not vacant?

Perhaps different 'vacant' s. I have seen activity, but haven't seen the door open in a while. As WAREHOUSEFOOL says, it's their right to have it. It just seems like a hell of a door with seemingly little to protect. So what the hell is that place and why the Fort Knox-door?
