Cross in the Park

Cross in the Park
It's that time of year again - time for one of the most exciting bike races to kick into high gear in Delaware Park. This is an event that is almost as much fun for the onlookers as it is for the cyclists. Bring your cow bells and cheer on the cyclists as they race around the course.

According to cross organizers at Campus Wheelworks, "We will be hosting our 3rd annual cyclocross bicycle race called 'Cross in the Park'. Cyclocross is a unique discipline of cycling that takes riders through a taped off course consisting of off camber turns, mud, and steeple chase like barriers that force riders to dismount and carry their bikes over them. Riders complete 5-10 laps on the course, so there is constant action for spectators."

What: 'Cross in the Park: A Cyclocross Bicycle Race in Delaware Park

Where: Delaware Park (Hoyt Lake side near Shakespeare in the park hill) Buffalo, NY

When: Sunday, November 4, 2012 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

There will be food trucks present on that day, along with a kids' race, a DJ, event merch, and bike vendors.

this side article on Acropolis has me irritated- so rant I have to....I am so tired of preservationists, obstructionists and politicians, annoying old neighbors etc.....I dont know if anyone has had there eyes opened the past 50 years but what we have been doing hasnt worked....We are one of the poorest ciities annually in the country, publics schools suck;(which was just revealed by an outside consultant that we paid a ton of money); but already knew...Neighborhoods are struggling to keep commercial spots open because of out of touch owners, A-hole neighbors....When is someone going to tell Buffalo and all of their loud mouth politicians that what they have been doing doesnt work...
Finally after too many years of awfulness...I can only name 2 or 3 cities that seem to be suffering more than us...Finally there are a select few who are willing to put money into the city and turn a corner and we still have idiots blocking them...Maybe its time to let these people try and grow the city...Progree works...It may not look asthetically great sometimes but it works....Just ask all 200 other cities that are doing better economically than Buffalo...................
Let Savarino build his buffalo river condos, let Acropolis creat a Greek destination.., the list goes on....
It is so frustrating...And for the people that want to obstruct, make them responsible for something instead of their own loud mouths.....

In what way is the destruction of public park grounds a "sport"? Bicycles are meant for pavement, NOT for turning turf into mud. This is almost unbelievably selfish.

Campus WheelWorks donated $150 worth of grass seed last year to repair any torn up sections of grass. For the most part however, there is no real damage to the grass. The tire tracks do not go deep enough to damage the fibrous roots of the grass, so with a little rain and time, the muddied up grass will spring back to life without any help. We also work to avoid any tree roots, to protect the trees. Campus employees donated time to make sure that any left over tire tracks were flatted out after our race. We made sure to spend time picking up any trash, no matter how small. It is important to us that we respect our parks and make sure that we fix anything that is damaged so that Olmsted can properly take care of Delaware Park and so we can continue promoting cycling in the City of Buffalo. Our goal is to bring people into the City of Buffalo, to enjoy our parks and our race. We also encourage them to visit our shops and dine in our restaurants. Duh.

I happen to care about the condition of the parks; you obviously do not.

We all care about the condition of the park. However, your sentiments are uninformed.
