Cause for Mass Appeal 2012: The Church at Evergreen

Cause for Mass Appeal 2012: The Church at Evergreen
Many of us our familiar with the origins of Mass Appeal - the Elmwood Village fashion show held in Lafayette Church that captured the imagination of the community the first year that it was held. While the event has switched venues, and is now being held at The Church at Evergreen, 262 Georgia Street in Buffalo (see here), the over-the-top multi-media flare remains the same.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, the Elmwood Village Association and Evergreen Health Services will be showcasing some of the areas greatest fashion talents featuring fashion found in a number of the Elmwood Village boutiques, and worn by models in the midst of "a grand church venue, new energy, and the highest level of artistic production."

Come see the top designers, artists and performers including local DJs and The Albrights, as the church is transformed into a mix of high-energy club party, drag show, music venue, lounge-bar and multi-media runway show. Here's a video clip teaser:

The Church at Evergreen ? Have never heard of it. The last thing I knew, this was a Baptist church.

yeah-- apparently aquiring a church for performance space fits with the mission of caring for people with HIV/AIDS. This organization is a bloated, disorganized mess and has been for years.

I recommend burbs call Evergreen to schedule a site visit to see first hand all of the programs and services they provide to the community, and not just to those living with HIV. Suggesting that the church was acquired to serve as a performance space is ignorant. Evergreen Health Services is one of the best organizations I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

Lulu- you provide ZERO specifics other than to say basically- " you are wrong, they are awesome". The fact of the matter is, they are a bloated, top heavy organization with a scattered focus and a lack of direction. There are organizations in this area that provide care to 2-3 times the number of HIV/AIDS patients than they do, yet everyone falls all over themselves to support this one. Their outreach efforts to the neighborhoods and populations where we KNOW new infections are happening (east side, black women) but continue to contain their outreach to neighborhoods closest to their HQ. Erie county has the data. look it up.

And if you think the friends and family patronage is bad in city and county government- they got nothing on this place.
