Skate Plaza Design Workshop

Skate Plaza Design Workshop
We know that there are some serious skateboarders in town. We also know that there's a lot of interest in seeing the best skate plaza design possible once the LaSalle Skate Plaza is up and running. That's why it's so important that local skaters attend a Skatepark Design Workshop that is scheduled to take place September 26, 2012 from 6pm-8pm at The Belle Center (104 Maryland Street - Buffalo, NY 14201). Learn more about the Skate Plaza.

This is the opportunity that many skaters have been waiting for, and some never thought would ever happen. It's not often that a workshop of this nature comes around. "The LaSalle Park Skate Plaza will be the first of its kind in Buffalo and Western New York and one of the only downtown skate parks in the country," said Mayor Brown.  "Our city's young people have been asking for a safe and dedicated location for skating where they can focus their energy outside of school. I look forward to their input as we move forward on this project that will not only serve local skateboard fans, but has the potential to attract skate tourists that will benefit the entire city."

I've skated for over 15 years and those are some serious parks in Travelrrr's link. As a free public park, they should build the park mostly out of concrete as wooden (or Skatelite) surfaced ramps take a serious beating needing bi-annual repairs/resurfacing at LEAST. Encorporate features that cater to BMX bikers, skatebaorders, and rollerbladers. Too many parks are being built that only have one extreme sport in mind.

Also, don't make the skating surface asfault as they made the huge mistake doing at B3 in Wheatfield many years ago. When the temperatures get warm, the asphalt gets soft and it cuts down the speed of skateboard and rollerblade wheels by atleast 20%

In one of the other threads about this some involved mentioned it's going to be a plaza/mall type, not the huge halfpipes etc. so concrete seems logical anyway.

It would be terrific to get some local metal maybe Ridgidized can help create some Buffalocentric rails etc.

Also considering the location and distance to other restaurants this seems a great location for a Food Truck, what are the rules about being in a park like Lasalle?

With the kind of money the city is talking about and the skill of the design company that has been selected this park will be premier. I think it will be a beautiful addition to lasalle park and add vitality as well.

A well designed skatepark instantly becomes a destination for skaters everywhere (Burnside in Portland, FDR in Philly, Louisville Extremepark etc.)

Not only will it be a plus for local skaters, but it can also bring in Pro Demos and national competitions if done correctly.

Hope it's good enough to be added to a Tony Hawk or w/e game so I can try it.

I don't think I'm going to be able to make the design workshop. If someone going could please make sure the park contains some or all of these components, I'd greatly appreciate that:

4 - 6' Halfpipe...because most people can't ride a 12 - 16 footer

Bowl/Pool (preferrably also shallow)

Pyramids/Funboxes of a few different sizes

Bank ramp...maybe even with a small quarter pipe in the center for transitions.

Quarter pipes

Wall ride transitions

Anything else is just a bonus...but ideally, maybe even a snake run? :)
