Back in June we caught up with GooGoo Dolls bass guitarist Robby Takac as he lit a celebratory birthday candle in honor of Music is Arts' tenth year in production. When I say production, I really mean it - this weekend is going to be jam-packed with so many acts that it would be impossible to take them all in.
To think about the rocky road that this festival went down to get to where it is today. "This is our tenth year and it's been naturally growing in all sort of directions," Robby told me. "This is going to be the biggest and most dynamic collection of artists and musicians and dancers yet. We're spreading it out this year - Lincoln Parkway is being shut down and the three main stages are going to be facing Hoyt Lake directly behind the gallery. We've had a lot of years to explore the different pockets available to us, and this year we're combining all of the best ones. There will be four stages of emcees and DJs, along with a full blown day of Americana music. One stage will be curated by Hallwalls and another by Big Orbit. The Kids Village will be running all day long, so families are welcome. Then we'll have a Big Easy stage, a Spoken Word stage, projectionists, living sculptures and live muralists. Charles Clough is doing a piece, as is Jonathan Bryce, the escape artist, who will attempt an escape while hanging by a crane over Hoyt Lake - all performed with live music written by local composers. 98 percent of the talent is from Buffalo NY. Eleven stages will be running simultaneously... I get so excited about this... it's always fresh and new."

Congrats to Robby and MIA. I can't believe it's been almost 10 years since the Allentown Arts Fest folks tried to run him and the festival out of town. Thumbs up for MIA's fortitude and determination.
