Mobile Soles: Shoes on the go!

By Giovanni Centurione:

Something pink and on wheels has been turning heads in Buffalo recently. It’s called ‘Mobile Soles’ – a ladies shoe & accessories store based in Buffalo, and owned and operated by Melissa Fayson who has been on the road since this past June.

What is ‘Mobile Soles’ exactly? It’s a shoe, t-shirt, jewelry, and accessories store for ladies that travels, offering the latest trends at reasonable prices. Soles can travel all over the state for hostess parties and charity events or it can pay visits to nursing homes and hospitals, delivering fashion to those who have a hard time getting around town. Mobile Soles can be spotted on the street, but the business is not currently operating as freely as a food truck… yet. Fayson sets up pre-arranged visits with local organizations and businesses in the immediate area. She also makes home deliveries and gets booked for special events.

How did the mobile shoe store concept come about? The idea started right after a car accident in 2009. Melissa was homebound, on crutches and could’nt leave her home. She searched online and in the telephone books for a mobile service who could bring her new shoes and accessories. They did’nt exist in this area at all… nor in other places as far as she could tell. Hey, when you have to shop, you have to shop.

Mobile Soles is the first and only mobile shoe and accessory store in the Buffalo area and will operate all year long. The mobile unit can travel anywhere in New York State, operating Monday-Saturday 10am-8pm, and Sunday by appointment (available for fashion emergencies).

Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.

What happens when she makes a turn or slams on the brakes? All of her merchandise goes flying in the back of the truck?

let this be an inspiration to other entrepreneurs: what other goods are portable enough to vend from a truck? i’m thinking books, electronic devices, handbags/knapsacks/briefcases. have at it, all you smart people out there!
