Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week

Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week
By Steven Bales:

Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week (MBBFW) started off in a big way down on Chippewa this past Saturday, September 20th 2012.

The first sign of this big event was Ooo La La Boutique's new pink mobile store, bringing with it all of the delights of fall fashion. This was probably the first time I watched a complete MBBFW fashion show without being apart of the back stage excitement, which gave me a new perspective of the entire affair.  The big ticket show was at LUX Nightclub (75 West Chippewa Street), which was packed for the entire bikini-clad event. Each year the Buffalo runways get more and more exciting, and this year was no exception - the crowd was lively all the way to the end, with mobs of people surrounding the catwalk on all sides. Even the second floor was standing room only, filled with fashionable spectators watching from above as they leaned against the railings and lounged about on couches.

The atmosphere was definitely fashion savvy and you could find quite a few people dressed to the nines - a sight that I always enjoy... it's nice to see spectators get into the act. From where I was standing, I could see over 10 photographers flashing their cameras - the more cameras and overall attention from the crowd helped to excite everyone involved, and the female models were having a great time working the crowd in their sexy swimwear while the fellas showed off their muscles. The MBBFW ladies (see below) were definitely dressed to impress in their all-black designer outfits.

Less than 12 hours later, on Sunday afternoon in the Walden Galleria Mall, those driven and unified ladies of MBBFW were at it again. The mall fashion shows for Old Navy, Macy's and Bebe created added publicity for the fashion scene in Buffalo, NY. I'm sure the Canadian shoppers enjoyed the shows as well... while we mainly promote the local boutique scene at BRO, we also understand that mainstream fashion is important and provides all of us with the ability to pick up clothing and accessories options that only the larger department stores and chain clothing stores can offer. MBBFW does a good job highlighting a nice cross-section of the fashion scene here in Buffalo.

I hear the hotels are booked full due to the influx of magazine writers and stylin women from NY flocking here for fashion week. Are there still tickets available for the "Forever 21" show? I remember last year I sat between Ralph Lauren and Cindy Crawford followed by cocktails with Vera Wang. So. Ex. Cit. Ing!

I would imagine it beats your usual Saturday night of Lucy re-runs and Hungry Man tv-dinners. Throw in yelling at your kids because they never met your soaring expectations, then sulking because you realize its your fault because you're a miserable person, and cap it all off by hanging out at the mall to make fun of some fat high school kids just to elevate your view of yourself. Maybe come home and get off on putting down some more people or their ideas online.

...a nice little Saturday planned! I don't know if we'll have enough time!

But Sunday is just around the corner. And you know what that means... Donovan Building Update!!!

While I certainly do not plan on attending this event, I find it sad that you're so miserable (based on your post).

This reads like it was written by a 16 year old. Why no editorial standards Buffalo Rising?

I did like the beginning paragraph where the author said, "The first time I have seen a fashion show without being part of the back stage excitement." So you never saw a fashion show, yet you just ended up working backstage all these times? If you're going to attempt to brag, say it right.

I just don't understand why here in Buffalo. It would be one thing if we had underground fashion designers, but this is just redic. Whose idea was it to spray silver spray paint all over that gorgeous African American model? :-S

- Tie-die bikini with black top
- White plain bikini

Fashion?!?!

Is this a fashion show or is this Dick's sporting Goods new catalog? Either that, or they just took pictures of all the wrong outfits

The Niagara Square pics look great, the runway photos not so much. I love Krudmart and all the stuff they have going for them. They moved from Elmwood and Allen a few years back to occupy space on Grant and recently opened up a second retail location in Long Island. They're definitely not in the high end fashion biz though. That's why the pics might make everyone think it's a big joke, but they are gaining popularity in the youth/urban/skater/hiphop scene regionally. Just thought I'd mention this as I love the brand and hate to see it mocked!

As a member of the Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week committee for three years, I'd like to point out what this article failed to highlight that may answer the question of "why Buffalo Fashion Week?". The photo shoot in Niagara Square featured independent and local designers (Jimmylee dresses, handbags by Vania & David, and Franci Jewelry), as well as featured Buffalo architecture. The swimwear show featured local swimwear designer, Adjanys, as well as Krudmart, a local shop, and yes, a mall brand, Forever 21. Up next is the boutique show at the Mansion on Delaware Avenue tonight, featuring local boutiques (Anna Grace, Leelee, and Modern Nostalgia). On Thursday, four designers are traveling from Manhattan to show their spring 2013 collections, along with Jimmylee, at Statler City. For more pictures of the Niagara Square shoot you can visit our facebook page (facebook.com/buffalofashionweek) or blog (buffalofashionweek.wordpress.com). Best, Erin
