Buffalo NY City Guide: Pass It On

Buffalo NY City Guide: Pass It On
Sometimes it can be good to have a Buffalonian move away... even if you don't want him or her to do so. Do any of you remember when Max Tielman used to shoot fashion for Buffalo Rising? It was right after launching BRO online, and Max (Tim Tielman's son) was still in high school. One of the more memorable shoots took place in Common Council chambers at City Hall. Max had been granted permission to do a photo shoot with his friends using the offices of select councilpersons. What was not known (by City Hall staff) was that the shoot was a tad risque, and the girls were dressed in lingerie. Of course when the photos went live on Buffalo Rising, s%#t hit the fan and all hell broke loose. It was Tim Tielman who first called me to plead that the photos come down promptly, as he was taking some serious heat from officials at City Hall. Begrudgingly we ended up pulling the post, and it wasn't long after that that Max ended up heading to NYC for college.

A couple hours ago, a friend of mine who recently moved to Buffalo from NYC sent me a link to an article in Design Sponge. I couldn't have been happier to see that the image-loaded article was by none other than our friend Max Tielman. Basically, Max has put together an action-packed guide to Buffalo, in order to combat the people that he runs into who have a negative view of our city. While not everything is accounted for, this is a super informative "How To Get Around" guide that should come in handy for anyone moving to or visiting Buffalo. Way to be a staunch ambassador Max!

Now can you repost that City Hall fashion photo shoot so we can relive the outrageously laughable memories?

doubt that was the first time that someone was down to their undies in council chambers.

This is a good idea but my concerns are that this is vague and has been done before, see http://buffaloniagara.org/files/relocationguide/index.html. Also, If you are producing a city guide for those traveling to Buffalo, wouldn't it be nice to tell folks that Swannie and Santa's is cash only?

Was this maybe this was a college project of Max's and not meant to be taken seriously?

joe, I think that's pretty harsh. I know Max personally, and he takes his ex-pat commitment to Buffalo very seriously. He hasn't lived in Buffalo for the past 5 years - I think it's fair to say that most people wouldn't remember the names of restaurants they frequented 5 years ago in a different city, let alone wether or not they take plastic.

I was with him for part of the time he was making this guide, and it's a recent endeavor. He actually brought the idea to design sponge (for whom he works).

I say big props to Max for a great article. Go ex-pats!
