Tony's Ranch House enlists the help of Elbers

Leave a commentDoes look much better, something nice to look at while
enjoying a couple of those slime dogs. Glad this establishment
was able to stay around.
Maybe it looks better in person, but that doesn't look very appropriate to an urban environment like Main Street. I'm not saying the field of asphalt was good, but in an urban setting I think a more ordered and precise placement of trees and flowers is more appropriate than a pseudo-rural assortment of trees and shrubs.
Still, glad to see they are investing in the building and lot.
Well, better go see your rhinologist, then.
My opinion is that this is what James Howard Kunstler dubs a "nature band-aid". The urbanism is bad, so the knee-jerk reaction is to pretty it up with some "green space", when the correct answer is to create good urbanism.
I have no opinion on Tony's Ranch House the restaurant itself, having never eaten there, but the building itself is a disposable little brick box in the middle of a large expense of asphalt, completely inappropriate for an interesting triangular corner lot on a block like this. This corner should be filled with a two-story building like all of the other commercial buildings on this and nearby blocks to the north.
Obviously this looks nicer than a completely unlandscaped parking lot, but it doesn't change my opinion that this building is inappropriate for this lot, and hopefully it will be replaced with something more urban in form someday.
I'm sorry that you think I am trolling by expressing my opinion.
I believe much of this improvement was funded via grants that the Parkside Community Association received and dispersed. A pocket park for the recently demolished Kozy Kettle restaurant next door to Tony's is in the works.
This strip of Main between Sisters and the Central Park Grill is slowly starting to come together. CPG has new owners by the way, and they are already starting to make positive changes.
It’s attention grabbing. A commendable uplift.

I've been watching this project unfold on occasional treks up to University Heights, and the improvement is like day vs. night. Yeah, this was a brutal spot on the streetscape. It's always great to see a business go for real landscaping, instead of just plopping in a line of shrubs in front of the building.
Nice job, Tony's and Elbers!
