Buffalo Bills: Four Who Need to Shine in Final Preseason Game
Comments
Leave a commentReleasing Vince Young was a costly mistake. Despite his occasional inaccuracies, he could throw catchable, sometimes even long range passes. Plus he could actually convert 3rd downs. Oh well.
Easley is a sure cut. Williams, Fitzpatrick and Spiller will barely play. This game doesn't matter. Like this article.
it should, though... the Bills haven't shown enough so far this preseasom, especially the starters. If there's still some kinks to work put, which there obviously are, then why wait until the regular season
Just because the starters traditionally dont need to play on this one doesnt mean they automatically shouldnt, especiallt if theres still work to be done.
Josh, Josh, Josh. Fitz, Williams and Spiller all figure HUGE into the Bills' plans this year. They don't need to -- and will not -- prove anything tonight. You should know this game is all about players who are in jeopardy of not making the team, Easley, of course, being one of them. Beyond Easley, however, let's just stick to the receivers. Roosevelt and Hagan will also need to shine tonight, battling for one -- maybe two -- roster spots at the position. And what about the list of backup defensive backs and defensive ends vying for a roster spot? Or how about Tyler Thigpen, for god's sake? Unless he lights the world on fire, he's a goner; but how about needing to shine as an audition for a job elsewhere?
I'm just saying that fans would feel alot better if any of the above players showed something tonight, Easley is the only one in danger, though, you're right there.
the other names have just underperformed to this point in the oreseason and it would just be nice to see a confidence building performance from them, if only for a quarter... or even a single series.
Fitz needs to get in rhythm with his receivers and Spiller and Williams need to find their game. Id just like to see a little more urgency from the coaching staff when it comes to these guys, a sign that they're concerned about their performance in the preseason to this point.
Btw, the title i put in for this piece was clearer... "Bills who have underperformed this preseason"... it was altered...
Interested to see Tavaris Jackson take some snaps
Have the Bills signed a new lease that keeps them playing in Orchrad Park. Any news on a new waterfront stadium, Cleveland has a great stadium on their water
Wanna point out that the four on this list sll stepped up their game tonight
I want to point out that the last preseason game means absolutely squat for each guy you mentioned, less Easley. I get it that you want to see Fitz, Spiller and Williams do well, but these guys simply are not playing for anything in the preseason, other than not to get hurt. They play in 300- percent dulled down systems. Fitz went 5-for-5...great...now what? Super Bowl? League MVP?
The bigger story is, guys who really needed to shine -- Easley, Tyler Thigpen, and even Ruvell Martin, Kamar Aiken and Naaman Roosevelt -- did. This game is about making the team. The positional battles were in full effect last night, but I guess if you find comfort in Fitz hitting four passes in the flat and a wide-open Stevie Johnson, I'll give it to you. He "stepped up." For a drive.
I just wanted to see that these starters were still moving in the right direction, which they were. Why not take something good away from this game? Why continue to harp on how meaningless the preseason is? We obviously watch it and want to see the 1st string perform against another teams' first string.
I like seeing a well executed drive against a top defense to start and though the rest of the game was indeed about making the them (btw Tank also looked good at linebacker, it wasn't just about wide receivers), the first 11 plays were a great 6+ minute drive that was worth watching the starters run.
It may not have sold me on their ability to win a Super Bowl, but it made me think they were better than an 0-4 preseason record and gave me hope for the season. They looked good, period. Not reading any more into it beyond that.
And why do you believe their performance in this game is only worth something if they're fighting for a roster spot? Can't we be pleased simply to see the guys we expect to play well simply play well?
I did say "positional battles," Josh, which implies more than one. Good day, sir. Go Jills.

At least we start against the Jets this year...they're awful.....their offense makes the Bills look like the St. Louis Rams greatest show on turf circa
