Perfetto | Steak - Seafood - Pasta
Comments
Leave a commentGreat news! I always felt that location was a great one for a restaurant, so hopefully this will be the one that succeeds. Certainly with this concept, the 600-block conversion to driving traffic, and the generally positive momentum of downtown development, this could be the one!
Haha good catch. Where's Waldo.
And me, also at the mic.
What are the other restaurant that he has owned or worked at?
Mike A's did step up Buffalo's game. Hopefully sometime soon someone will offer another type of high(er)-end place beyond traditional steak and seafood.
Steak and a Lobster are great, but there is sooooo much more out there!
If you look at the James Beard award nominees from around the country most are doing totally different things from the traditional steak and seafood - http://www.jamesbeard.org/sites/default/files/static/additional/2012-jbf-nominees.pdf
i wish the guy every success, but i have to agree that there is nothing especially head-turning about steak and seafood. e.b.green's steakhouse is practically across the street.
I like that it's a hometown guy but it will be nice when there is others from outside the area that believe in the renaissance as well ..... We will need more people from outside to believe as well - outside business , commercial , retail, companies, employees ...... This is a great home grown story but when we see outsiders moving in with a few companies then it will be great
So this is place on the 600 block, the Thai joint in Sidaway on 700 block Fench Bistro on the 500 block and Dinasoar on Franklin Street, Wow thats a lot of new seats coming.
French Bistro on the 500 block?
Yeah, check the story about a week ago about the Rose Nails building that's under contract. It's mentioned there.
Yea, that was mentioned a year ago. Until something actually happens there, I'm not believing it. I thought he was referencing another new restaurant.
I'd love to see a push improve the impact of the Theater District, marquee improvements, especially the Cinema with a Hi def screen showing previews and ads and images of the city (like the Convention Center) and incentives to locate a few more theaters to the district,(Uigima, Kavinoky). Our region is also missing a concert ventue seating 7-10K, and a premier comedy club.
Very cool! Perfect addition to the neighborhood! I've been saying for a while that Buffalo is in need of a bar with something more -- blues, jazz, comedy, etc. With more and more people living nearby, myself included, I think this site will finally do well.
One question for the author -- or anyone, really: When are they planning to open?
"And it motivates me to prove that the right restaurant, with the right concept and the right people can be a winner"
"and a reinvigorated Downtown"
The second quote is what will allow the first to happen. This same concept would've likely failed in 2005, just as the others did. Likewise, the previous ventures that failed may have succeeded if open today.
I was thinking the same thing. 7 years ago there wasn't much going on or even planned in the downtown area. Most of the growth of downtown has happened in the last 4 years. I'm actually surprised that someone didn't take on this space already.
As for steak and seafood, that's what people like and pay money for. If we can have dozens of pizzerias, sub shops, greek diners, etc. all within a square mile why wouldn't a couple of surf and turf places near each other do well? What do people want as an alternative? The most recent restaurant opening closest to this location is Mighty Taco. I'd say this is a great balance. I'd like to see more of that happening in the city/downtown.
Oooh....steak and seafood...like every other restaurant in Buffalo. Maybe, someday, we can get an Italian restaurant.
Yeah! Someone should open a kale and cephalopod restaurant! That would rake in the masses!
Why are you interested in when he's opening? Does steak and seafood intrigue you?
I like the fact it will have a stage for comedy and jazz acts. A restaurant with 'entertainment' in the Theater District is pretty long over-due.
yea I think that is an awesome idea. Live entertainment draws people to downtown.
OK, sooooo...ahhh...when do they project this establishment opening???? Journalism 101 here, folks! Yeah, I know...it's a blog, but come on -- the people want to know :)
The Buffalo News article says they plan to open in September. In time for Curtain Up.
From the story above "Haynes confirmed that he is excited to see work begin (in September) on the 600-block of Main Street - work that will return auto traffic to the street, with project completion anticipated one year from breaking ground."

No worries, Buffalo Rising; mainstream media had the info I so desperately sought.
Fingers crossed that their plans prove to be perfecto!
I agree about beefing up the visual impact of the theatre district. We need more marquis. It was great to see Irish Classical add one a few years ago. I'd love too see others follow suit. The Tralf can start. How can this club have absolutely no signage on Main Street outside of an 8"x10" sign taped to a door! Pathetic! Come on. Someone with vision needs to take the lead in the theatre district and capitalize on this momentum.
"We need more marquis"
And marquesses!

Re: beefing up the visual impact of the Theater District . . .
The Alleyway Theater needs to enliven its windows. The redo (from a former police station and previous to that a bus station) is commendable but it sports a sad, unused appearance.
Great to see a new restaurant taking over this vacant space on Main but have to agree with some of the comments here: steak, seafood, pasta? Sounds a little tired to me? Then the jazz, comedy, theater performances? Whaaa? If the place evolves into something like that fine but in the meantime it sounds gimmicky and like they're trying WAY too hard.
The worst part about the whole thing though is the name.... Perfetto? Really? It just sounds cheesy, old, stuffy. "Hey guys lets go check out Perfetto, get some fettuccine alfredo and catch a comedy show!!" No. It's almost embarrassing. I guess you gotta start somewhere... beggars can't be choosers... yadda yadda yadda.
I do wish them luck, but think they'll have a better shot at being successful if they do end up offering something that's actually different and delicious and give me a reason to head down there.
See you at the auction!
No really, best of luck--I looked at that place ten ways to Sunday and even with a consultant we could not make the numbers work.
this article fails to mention his current restaurant in Angola "Jay's Hilltop Bistro" I believe is the name. Unfortunately, that place leaves a lot to be desired and overcharges for mediocre food.
If it was a seafood-centric restaurant (we have steakhouses that serve a small lineup of traditional seafood dishes on the side), I would be a bit more excited.
Great to see Chef Dana White back in buffalo & back in action at Perfetto. Can't wait to see what he will do with with this new venue in the heart of the theater district.
