Mighty Taco Opens on Chippewa Tomorrow

Mighty Taco Opens on Chippewa Tomorrow
Mighty Taco is opening its first downtown location on Chippewa Street tomorrow, its 20th in Western New York.  The new location at 52 W. Chippewa St. in the Calumet Building opens its doors at 10 AM.

The circa-1906 Calumet Building is in the final stages of a complete renovation.  Law firm Kenney, Shelton, Liptak, & Nowak partnered with Frank Parisi and Angelo Natale to purchase and renovate the 24,000 sq.ft. building that was designed by Esenwein & Johnson.  Architecture firm Carmina Wood Morris prepared the redevelopment plans for the property.

Kenney, Shelton, Liptak, & Nowak will be moving its offices to the building's second and third floors on July 27.

The first Mighty Taco opened at 1247 Hertel Avenue on August 31, 1973 with four original owners: Dan Scepkowski, Andy Gerovac, Ken Koczur, and Bruce Robertson.

About time. It took 39 years to get a location downtown? As of now, the only one even in the city is way up Delaware in North Buffalo. Late night fast food options near me are Jim's and McD's on Niagara. I'd brave the idiots who hang out on Chippewa just to get a steak fajita at 1 am. They better stay open late.

Really? Have you been there on a Friday or Saturday at 2am? I'm not talking the dinner crowd at Bacchus. I'm talking about the people too cool to go into the bars so they congregate on the sidewalks and street looking for, and causing, trouble.

There used to be more Mighty Tacos in the city years ago. I remember locations on Elmwood Avenue near Buff State, and Bailey Avenue in Kensington.

Original locations were on Hertel Ave and Seneca St, that was in about 1978. I worked at the Elk Market Terminal at that time and the owners rented space from us. They were nice guys, very pro city, too bad they forget who made their success possible. The location you mentioned near Elmwood was on Forest Ave, later moved to Grant-Amherst.

Elmwood Taco did not last on Chip for some reason. I thought it would have been a natural fit.

I spoke to a server at the Taste of Buffalo and they said opening in fall of 2013. They didn't have a location though. Seems like there should be some official news coming soon.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que officials have confirmed they will soon bring a location to Buffalo.
Back in March, Dinosaur's CEO said they were scouting possible locations for a restaurant in Buffalo, but said plans were not concrete.
Now, managers of the restaurant who were at the Taste of Buffalo say their tentative date to open up in Buffalo is Fall 2013.
They say they're still working out details on a location, but say it will not be along the waterfront, and will instead be within walking distance of Niagara Square.

“We've been trying for a while, and things are falling into place, and we got a spot in mind, but we're on the five yard line,” said Dinosaur Bar-B-Que kitchen director Scott Stevenson.

I think the location across the street from New Era Cap would be perfect...

I think anything in that desolate hole across from New Era would be great. Just not a Walgreens.
