Imagine Art Classes at 464 Gallery

Imagine Art Classes at 464 Gallery
In an effort to keep the creativity flowing in Black Rock this summer, 464 Gallery will be hosting a series of art classes in what they are calling the Imagine Art Program. Gallery owner Marcus Wise and program director Jenn Crissey have developed this program to continue the gallery's mission to support Buffalo's creative potential and emerging artists in our local community.

"The classes are designed to support and promote the vibrant artist community that the gallery is a part of," said Crissey. "The classes will have opportunities for viewing art of exceptional quality, but also for developing and encouraging creativity. Classes feature a unique and engaging space dedicated to the art classes, whether it is inside or enjoying the beautiful space outside."

The classes will cover a wide range of visual arts topics, from photography to figure drawing and creative fine arts. A local artist or teaching artist will be at the helm of each class to guide students and help them cultivate their own ideas. "Teaching artists are very enthusiastic and motivated to bring their creativity and ideas to the community," Crissey said. Each class will feature a different local artist who wants to offer a little creative insight.

The most recent class was a mixed media fine arts class entitled "Mixing Things Up." Teaching artist Cassie Lipsitz, who has been working as an art teacher for the Buffalo public schools for five years and currently teaches studio art at Lafayette High School, led the session. Lipsitz guided her students through the fun of mixed media creation, showing them how to layer their ideas upon a canvas with writing, drawing, painting, cutting and gluing pieces together.

"The goal is also to offer something different and unique, and let participants be able to experience new techniques and ideas while fostering creative thinking within each class," said Crissey.

The classes will take place biweekly on Sundays at 12 p.m. throughout the rest of the summer and beyond. Classes will typically run about two hours and will be kept at a fairly intimate size to allow for one-on-one instruction (around 10-12 students). No previous art experience is required, just an interest in learning and creating. The registration fee for all classes is $30, with a separate materials fee based on the class.

The schedule for future classes in the Imagine Art Program is as follows:
