Madonna's - Made for Allentown
Comments
Leave a commentJust what Allen, and this part of Allen, in particular, needs. Hopefully, they will camp it up a bit--play lots of Madonna, etc. This is a very welcome addition to the Allen strip.
Wow I knew Atmosphere had no chance but that was a fast exit.
I'm pretty sure the "Funky Monkey" opening down the street might might break that record based on the name alone.
and "big bad wolf"
*groan*...
and 'Sinful', is it still open?
Good luck. I like the name. And yes, tables on the sidewalk would be nice.
The food at Cafe 59 would lead you to believe this restaurant will do well.
Chris knows food and Allentown, and quite well. This is a welcome addition after the disaster that was Atmosphere 62.
Maybe the ceiling hangings are there for acoustic reasons given the tin ceiling.
We went loco with the noise at Cantina Loco which sports unmuffled tin ceiling sound. When I called for a reservation and heard the noise I couldn't believe it could be that loud. It was. Despite the good food we will not return there unless we can speak and be heard during dinner.
Mark Goldman added some acoustic pillow-like artistic hangings at Black Rock Kitchen & Grill- we weren't there before the hangings but the sound seemed ok for conversation.
I love that this space is getting (another) new life, and I even love the name. I am not sure, however, that I agree with all the comments about the space's previous configuration and design elements. Fiddleheads was one of my favorite places, and it operated there successfully for many years. It was cozy, and the flow seemed to work. You sat in the bar area on one side if you felt like ordering something light or "pub fare" and you sat on the other side if you wanted a more formal experience. Worked for me. That being said, I am sure Madonna's will be like a Ray of Light in Allentown.
Hello, All:
Thanks for your interest in this project. We are still a long way from opening, and I hope to keep the Buffalo Rising community current on the process.
Just to touch on what's already been mentioned:
The "flow" issue is not only front of house, but the kitchen as well. Spaces were added over the years, but the effect was one of knocking down a wall between two apartments...more space doesn't always equate to more useable space.
Chairs on the sidewalk aren't as simple as it sounds. I have every intention of having an ample patio, but the City of Buffalo requires quite a bit of work(and money) to allow this. Stay posted.
Will the space be too loud? I'm not sure, but the height of the ceilings may negate some of this, and the architectural elements being removed are all hard surfaces with sharp angles, so I doubt that they had much dampening value.
We will be both vegan and gluten-free friendly, but only so far as the food allows. At Cafe59, I have changed many soup recipes to be gluten-free, we have gluten free rolls, and we have plenty of vegan options. At Madonna's I will make it a point to have items which fit many dietary restrictions, but I really don't think that we will be stocking rice noodles. That being said, I'm sure that most people will be more than pleased with our menu.
Finally, as for "Can't we just bring back Fiddleheads?" The answer is simple...I can't, but feel free to do so, yourself.
I like Cafe59, but I can't ever find a clean table. Can you get your staff to bus the tables regularly?
