Leave a commentSarah Danielle may be the worst store name I've ever heard. I'd say it's up there with Destination by Lee Powers.
CONFIRMED: DinosaurBBQ is narrowing in on a location in the Theatre District and is close to a deal. The Buffalo location will not be near the water as previously thought. (source - DinoBBQ owner)
I'm going to guess, it's the former 'ya ya brewhouse'?
No No on Ya Ya.
Still not sure exactly where they plan to locate just yet, but we have Top Men working on it now. Top. Men.
no idea. spoke with the owner in NYC yesterday at the NYCBBQBlockPaty and i asked if they had a location. he said we are "thiiiis close". I said i assume its going to be down by the water? He said nope, we are moving in on a location in the Theater District.
I have absolutely no knowledge on where Dinosaur BBQ is looking. Would Genesee Gateway be considered Theatre District? I'm trying to think of places that would have enough space for a Dinosaur location. Ya Ya obviously comes to mind. There are few others in the area I can think of.
Parking is huge with a Dino. I would think between Franklin/Pearl Tupper/Chippewa. That block has huge surface lots. Whatever happened to that Blue Buffalo restaurant?
Even the old Ya Ya location has plenty of parking on Washington Street (evenings and weekends in the M&T Lot) with and an entrance on Washington St. I could see that being a great spark for the Theater District which so needs it.
Why do you say that? The Syracuse and Rochester locations (the only two I am familiar with) have a relatively small amount of off-street parking and most patrons park on the street.
A Theater District location will have easy access to that enormous parking lot on Washington Street so parking should be a complete non-issue.
I thought I had read in previous stories about this that parking was a concern in choosing their location. How does that lot on the Washington side work? Usually I see it packed, is it public parking? I recall going to Ya-Ya and it was always dead. Why did they fold?
That lot might be public during evenings and weekends only - not sure. I know that I once paid to park there for a Towne Ballroom show on a weekday evening.
Theater Dist has not been kind to restaurants thus far, hopefully Dinasoar has the destination power to succeed and create energy for more.
Great news for Main st. Now if we could only get vehicle traffic back on Main sooner, we could see some real growth.
The success of the Lafayette should help the Statler enormously.
I would think that all those frozen out of apartments at the Lafayette would be wanting to be on a waiting list for apartments in the Statler.
If I were a real estate developer...Id be watching the Statler closely...because movement there will put a lot of pressure on other pre-war buildings such as Olympic Tower, Hyatt, Liberty, Buffalo Savings, Rand, etc.
Pressure converting business buildings to residential should put more pressure to build new Class A office space or they could get pushed into the vacating HSBC depending on how that goes.
All good news for Buffalo. Now if we can just get these new urban residents into churches so we dont have to demolish those historic landmarks...we may actually be able to have a real stabilization/presevation plan.
I would like to know what Croce is planning next for the Statler. Have'nt heard or seen any signs of continued work since the lobby bar opened. Kinda figured he would focus on the lobby and forget about the rest of the building.
I just drove by there today and was thinking he really ought to put some money into the outside. If I was organizing a wedding party there, I'd be more than a bit embarrassed to have my guests arrive under those shabby marquees. I am sure the banquet rooms are beautiful but the building still looks derelict and crumbling from the sidewalk.
I think the Hotel Lafayette will eat the Statler's lunch if Croce doesn't spruce up the first impressions ASAP.
I absolutely could not agree more. Maybe Croce should rob Peter to pay Paul and then things will get done. You know, ticket more cars parked in lots outside of his establishments. I heard that's a pretty (scummy) successful business model.
Bottom line is Termini has a vision and follows through to completion, or else he simply does not take it on. Regardless that much of what he does comes from grants, his product will always be far superior to that of Croce. Period.
We were there over the weekend for drinks. One of the bartenders told us they are waiting for grant money from the city. Once that comes he plans to work on the exterior of the building and get the scaffolding down. Supposedly also discussing opening a restaurant/bar on the top floor with rooftop access. It sounds like those are the "next steps."
The hotel in Curtis building is going to happen prior to any big developments at Statler. Look for Curtis construction around fall, completion by next year this time.
That would be awesome. I can't wait to see that completed. Huron Street needs new life!
That schedule seem overly optimistic for what's involved.
(Start ~October -- Finish ~June?)
Great news all around! Washington St. is gonna be a badass spot.
Sure feels like good momentium. Hopefully once HSBC building issues are resolved we can see commercial office space market pick up too.
It would be great if we could lure away an HQ or two using the 1 billion that the state is going to provide.
Can't wait to see some mainline retail come into Canalside and Main Street. The small local stuff is great, but some national stuff will make the Canadians stop on the way to the Galleria from the Fashion Outlets.
Does anyone know what the story is on the Main Washington Exchange? Mark Schroeder pulled out of it, it's website is in PHP limbo and Buffalo Lab just moved to temporary offices on Broadway in Cheektowaga.
Rose Nails now has a sold sign on it and rumor is another building on the block is under contract. Oh PLEASE PLEASE let it be DinoBBQ.
i hear that dinobbq is considering darcy mcgees space anyone else hear this?
Great article!!!! Hope the momentum keeps going and picks up. If the Tishman deal goes through, it would be more people in the area (residents and guests). Hopefully this will spark more eating establishments and needed amenities in the area. And that in turn will spark more spin off business. Our leaders need to focus on attracting people to come and make our city (area) home. The Buffalo News had an article stating that Niagara Falls (city of) was offering to pay student loans if they relocated to the area. (Great idea)
Our leadership needs to be creative and draw people here too.
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel at the Lafayette over this past weekend, and we had a great time. The rooms look great, the staff is very attentive, Mike A is a great restaurant, and the whole place is looking fantastic.
If you believe in Buffalo's future and want to be part of the solution, please do not hesitate to patronize this new venture.
