Buffalo Bills: Most Overrated and Underrated Players
Comments
Leave a commentOur most overrated player is the guy who has caught the most touchdown passes 2 years in a row and is a fan favorite?
Most underrated would either be Wood, like BenFranklin said, or George Wilson -- who was ranked the 2 safety in the NFL by Bleacher Report. One spot behind Troy Polamalu and four spots ahead of Donte Whitner, the guy he backed up for 3 years.
Can you please stop writing about football? I'd love to hear your opinion on crochet. Thanks.
You're kind of a jerk. Are you aware of what Bleacher Report is? Its written by anybody - non-professional reporters. You could post an article if you took time away from just criticizing what others write. Its called 'bleacher' report because its articles by fans -> people who sit in the bleachers.
Kind of? Please don't sell me short, sir. I am a tremendous jerk.
Its a compilation of sports related news stories already published on the internet, joined together in one spot. Hence, why every story has a byline and credits from another website.
Uhhh, kind of like this blog? Josh Bauer -- while certainly a knowledgable football fan with decent observations -- is not a professional reporter...
Hey F... You're right, I am not a "professional"... I do not get paid and am currently working on getting better at what I want to do... professional? not yet, but thanks for coming back and reading more...
Brian, nice to see you again.
First, Johnson has good numbers and IS indeed a favorite in the area, but I wasn't talking about love or decent stats, was talking about who's over-rated and until Johnson can live up to his billing as a leader and someone who can be depended on late, he's not worth all the praises heaped on him and is over-valued to the team. Great player, good show, but Easley and Graham are waiting in the wings so he better mature quick.
Second, you are absolutely right, Wood is awesome, he makes the team better and is indispensable to Fitz (8 sacks, 5-3 before Wood was injured... 14 sacks, 1-7 the rest of 2011). If he could just stay healthy a whole year (he suffers from McGee-itis) maybe he wouldn't be so under-appreciated. I don't underestimate his importance, but he needs to play 16.
Lastly, don't hate on #37... 106 tackles, 6 deflections, 4 INTs, 2 forced fumbles in 2011... Polamalu is the same age and only had 90 tackles and 2 INTs, plus he had 3 more games to do it in (though he did have double the deflections, Troy had 0 FF).
Oh, one more thing... I found this helpful crocheting tip for you... enjoy...
"When you fasten off a project weave the ends back through with a yarn needle instead of a hook.
This makes the ends more secure in your project and it's less of a chance that the ends unravel."
Easely and Graham "waiting in the wings" ? Did you just seriously say that? They have zero regular season production, as does Donald Jones.
yes... "waiting in the wings"... as in there are players looking to step up and take his job if he doesn't want it and are both seemingly talented enough to make a go of it... Johnson isn't elite, but he could be if people stopped giving him so much credit for two 1000 yard seasons... they look at the stats and remember the good things, but don't hold him accountable for the bad because he's a "fan favorite"... criticism will make him better, praise will keep him stagnant... kind of like me
You mistake my judgment of your ineptitudes for criticism. You just made my day, kind sir.
How are both seemingly talented to make a go of it? What regular season statistics can you provide to back up that statement? Reception, YAC, production against a shut down corner -- anything?
no reg season stats, just college work and coach's impressions from OTAs so far... Johnson has so much potential to be better, just wish he would take that next step
I'm not sure I'd consider Johnson overrated, but if he were a stock, you'd call him 'high beta'. You either get a big upside, or big loss.
Starting with where he was picked, seventh round. Between 2000 and 2010, 215 receivers have been picked between the fourth and seventh round. Only 2 (Johnson and Colston of New Orleans) are with the team that originally signed them. His first two seasons, one dozen catches, second two, 158.
Yes, good numbers after Lee Evans left (kind of like he was waiting in the wings...by the way, the accepted definition of the phrase implies only the person is ready to take action at short notice, not that they will adequately replace).
The drops verse Pittsburgh and the Jets are a big concern, as well as the antics. I'm assuming the antics are easier to get under control than key drops.
I'm hoping Johnson performs, but I'd flag him as the Bill most likely to disappoint. With the improved defense, a decent sized (but young) line (that will run block better than they pass block) and a new contract for Freddy, I see Mr. Jackson getting the ball quite a bit. His durability, along with Woods, are keys to the season.
great points across the board... agree totally
Steve Johnson is the second best player maker on the team behind Fred Jackson period! He'll live up to expectations no doubt about it. Over-rated here on Buffalo Rising, not in the NFL. Ask Darrelle Revis (arguably one of the best corners in the league the last few years).
I thought Moorman had a tough year last year. My picks would be:
Underrated - Andy Levitre was an absolute monster last year until everyone on the line got hurt and the coaching staff tried playing him everywhere.
Overrated - This one's tough. Before the Williams/Anderson signings I might have said Chris Kelsay. Maybe Terrance McGee? He's definitely lost a step and will probably get hurt before week 5.

Someone should take the picture of Moorman throwing to the qb coach. A fraction of a second after this picture is taken, he should be able to look down at his knee, and his shin should be perpendicular to the ground. He's overstriding, which then causes the upper body to be thowing against the front leg.
Most underrated player on the team, on the field and in the lockeroom, is Eric Wood.
