Bill Cosby reminisces about Buffalo

Bill Cosby reminisces about Buffalo
After almost three years, the Get Motivated! Business Seminar motivational speakers were back at the First Niagara Center this past Tuesday from 8AM to 5PM BST (Buffalo Standard Time). To read about the last time they were here please click on Get Motivated. Some estimated there were only 6,000 people attending this time around. I would like to share with you highlights from an outstanding presentation by show-business superstar Bill Cosby, whom you might know from television's Fat Albert, I Spy and the Cosby Show.

Wealthy Buffalo people have Buffalo statues on their lawns

Bill started our "I have been coming to Buffalo since nineteen-oh ..." and then paused and got a nice laugh. He continued "1967!"  He remembered Buffalo winters with the clickety clacking of tire chains hitting the pavement that school children would hear and translate into "NO SCHOOL!". Bill mentioned the War Memorial, and that Buffalo always had the nicest people, and that this was before there was fast food! And some of the wealthy Buffalo people even have Buffalo statues on their lawns.

Bill Cosby looked great in his UB Bulls blue athletic suit!

Bill mentioned how Buffalonians are all about the Buffalo 'blue', being in Buffalo and how proud they are about who they are, and where they live. How enthusiastic they are about the Buffalo Bills. That the fans looked right through the TV during the Bills games and told those Bills that "we believe in ourselves" and that "they should all believe in themselves!" Oh, right, the Bills starters are all millionaires, and we are all filing SSI! (Still, I love the positive message there!)

James Brown and his lyric "Get Up!"

Mr. Cosby talked about great motiviational lyrics songs that James Brown had written. Very short lyricis. But very effective. Lyrics like "Get Up." As well as "Do It." And, of course, the famouns "Hah!" So during his presentation he would mention we were going to count to up to three and shout "Get Up". But then he shouted JUST the number THREE and everybody shouted "GET UP!" and "DO IT!" Like when he asked, "Buffalo, what are you still doing sitting here in your seats? Get up and get out of here! THREE! GET UP! DO IT! Obviously, Buffalo, you haven't been paying attention to these words!" But we couldn't get up. Cosby's presentation seemed much too valuable and motivational for us to miss the rest of his show.

Where to get the best ideas of all

Bill Cosby mentioned how interesting it is to hang out with dope smokers. And how you should take a tape recorder with you the next time you do. If you take a listen sometime, the dope smokers often have the greatest ideas anyone has ever heard. You should record their incredible ideas before they forget them. But there is just one problem. The greatest ideas in the world mean nothing if you don't get up and do them. Do so, and you will become  a 'thousandaire' (sort of like a millionaire, just smaller). So just get up and do it!

How Jesus might help you if you asked Him

Someone called Joe asked Jesus for help. Jesus asked what the problem was. Joe got exited and said "hypertension". Jesus said ... "just stop eating salt." Joe thought at least he should have been touched by Jesus and healed. Joe told Jesus he was disappointed. So Jesus said "Wait until you meet My Father."

Please share with us your favorite moments from this event

Bill Cosby was one of my favorite presenters of this day. His sense of timing was incredible. You could understand every single word and phrase. He had such kind words about Buffalo. My spirits were lifted. And I left with some musical mantras that will help focus me into actions when I need a little push.

Eh. Who cares. In every city he gives the same speech. Just changes the city's name as every celebrity does on tour.

Good grief that sounds like an horrific waste of time.

I'm surprised they managed to 'motivate' even 6,000 suckers to go. Then again, how many of them were just looking for a quick free day out of the office?

But was that the extent of the motivation?! Get up and Do it!? WOW! I suppose I should be ebullient that my cynicism has been proven justifiable....
