Get your Greek on this weekend!

Get your Greek on this weekend!
Ok, here's another fun-filled-event for you to fit into your already crazy schedule this weekend. It's the Buffalo Greek Fest! While you're out and about you must make it a point to swing by and check out all things Greek. After all, what would our city look like without all of the Greek food that we have come to love over the years? We tend to eat Greek food like most cities eat hotdogs and hamburgers. Come to think of it, even many of our hamburger joints are Greek diners in disguise...

While your stomach might already be grumbling, and your dancing shoes are easing their way out of the closet, there is so much more to experience than you ever imagined. You can easily spend a few hours at this festival with all of the activities. A couple weeks ago a 3rd annual Greek Fest 5K was held... yes, another 5K to add to the mix of runs to choose from (thanks for the catch).

Pick up some food to eat at the festival and stock up on some rather unusual groceries at the market... along with arts and crafts... there's even some beautiful architecture to behold. Don't be surprised if you get swept onto the dance floor to learn a few dance steps along the way. It's a dance fest, a food fest, a fashion fest, and it all kicks off tomorrow...

Isnt this the stuff that Buffalo should be advertising and publicizig more and more each year...They may already and I might not seeing the advertising but- every weekend in the Spring and summer there is something to do...I imagine Nationally and recruiting wise this is a perk....It goes all the way through Fall with the new German fest on the water......This weekend is Gus Macker, Gay Pride parade, Greek Fest and The Bash? if I am not mistaken......

It's funny how some complain there is nothing to do, when I can't seem to find the time to do everything.

If only there were some kind of on line magazine, or blog that would feature different things that Buffalo has to offer... Something to think about.

Wasn't there also a BR post about the Artisan Market at the waterfront this Saturday? Where did that go?

We need better Greek dining options, not just Spanikopita and Souvlaki.

Can you please elaborate because a lot of the restaurants do offer things like calamari, pastitsio, bakalava, horiotiki salata with dandelions and other items.

I mean I'm not going to defend restaurants up and down for their food, but I was just kind of wondering the specifics that are on your mind.

Thanks

FYI, the Greek Fest 5K run was actually held a couple weekends ago, in advance of the festival.

When did this stop being called the Hellenic Festival? Greek Fest is something they have at colleges during rush week.

Maybe in the last couple of years? I guess they must have decided that too many people simply don't know the word "Hellenic" and that they could attract a larger crowd by making it more clear.

Thanks JSmith. I figured it was fairly recently, last time I went was about 5 years ago and it was still the Hellenic Fest.

The Hellenic Heritage Festival (A.K.A. The Greek Fest) rocks! First time I went I planned to just stop by and enjoy some yummy Greek grub and go on with my day, but the other cultural events, church tour, etc. hooked me in and I stayed all afternoon.

Check it out!
