Introducing the Patrick Paladino Memorial Boathouse
Comments
Leave a commentIt's a little depressing when you think of how Chicago uses their river versus how the Buffalo River has developed.
But the Buffalo River is still pretty awesome. Cleaning up its shores would probably make the biggest impact. And everything Peg Overdorf and others have done/are doing is simply incredible.
Did I miss who the namesake is?
From the linked post, "Patrick Paladino, late son of developer Carl Paladino"
This is great news. Hope it helps persuade the owners of the Erie Freight House to continue the momentum. Not to mention the land Paladino owns between Riverfest Park and this new boathouse.
I've also heard rumors, hopefully someone can give more info but I heard something about the Edward M. Cotter getting a new station, and Bison City is going to do some kind of improvements. I hope the Fire Station includes a pedestrian walkway crossing Michigan at Ohio, this is becoming more and more popular of a walk behind the DL&W and really needs to be made safer for tourists and locals alike.
All these things are adding up to a great place to have a Riverwalk.
Just another idea, how cool would it be if someone could talk General Mills into allowing a mural on the side of the warehouse across from the DL&W shed? If you take a walk from Canalside down that path it looks pretty boring but could be spiced up. Even if it was advertising, maybe some old school logos, similar to the paint one just covered, or even a Phoebe Snow advert!
I'd hope theres a plan for a new station for the Cotter..its the only thing in the way of extending that walk to Riverfest park right?
The pace has been great..ideally I'd love to see some large scale clean up and environmental restoration..and later on a collection of hatcheries to restore the local wildlife/fish population. Lets stock the lake!
I'd be interested in seeing a site plan for this.
I maintain that the Cotter and fire station should be co-located with the Buffalo Fire Museum that currently sits off the beaten path on the east side. That would be a great attraction near the water and elevator alley where fire and industry met historically. Plus, just alot more going on down there makes for a more successful attraction.
This is such an exciting project- it's great to see Buffalo rediscover the Buffalo River as an excellent rowing site!
Does anyone know if Paladino has offered to sell that parking lot, or if he's involved with extending the park? Is that lot ever used?
Also, who owns the lot across the street between Ohio and Miami streets? (looks like just an old abandoned foundation left ...)
Probably the ugliest building Ive seen recently!
Rowing in the midst of "elevator alley" is nothing short of majestic!

Looks wonderful! Can't wait to see how the kids and shells can better interact with the water edge.
