Més Que

Més Que
There are sports bars and then there are sports bars dedicated to fútbol.

Right now, the closest thing that Buffalo has to a serious pub dedicated to soccer? I don't think that there is one. Yes, there are bars that get into the games when the World Cup is in action, but other than that there's really not much going on. If you're a fan of watching serious fútbol, all the time, then you'll be happy to hear that there is a pub opening that is designed for you.

It's being called Més Que which means 'more than', which is part of the motto of FC Barcelona - "More than a club". There's already a pretty big buzz going around the soccer community, which may not be the biggest sports community in Buffalo, though the solid base of fans are ardent supporters and should provide a good customer base for the pub. Which leads me to wonder why Americans as a whole are not more enthusiastic about the sport. In Buffalo, I think it's primarily because we don't have a professional team. Soccer Lens has some interesting points that contribute to a number of theories explaining the overall lack of passion for a game that is ruled by Argentina, Spain, Brazil, etc.

That doesn't mean that a lot of Americans love the sport... it just will never be as popular as basketball or football. For those of you out there who are familiar with FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, EUFA, UEFA Euro 2012... and closer to home the Bedlington Terriers FC, Sam's Army®, American Outlaws and FC Buffalo, there is another type of club coming to Buffalo and it's one that will take the Greater Buffalo soccer/fútbol community by storm.

From what I understand, the owners are pretty solid supporters of the FC Buffalo guys and have been for a while under other businesses. This is going to be a real boon for the community.

Awesome, too bad I'm leaving the region for work or I'd spend way too much money everytime I come to Buffalo for this!!!! I used to live a couple blocks from there as well. Well done to getting this started, it may not be the biggest sporting community, but the people that love it, love it and right down the road from FC Buffalo's stadium. Can't beat it!

You left out the most important part: Who the owners are and which amazing bar/restaurant they already own... Unless it's a secret?

Més Que is not Spanish. It's in Catalan, a language that sits somewhere between French and Spanish.

The owners have been laying low. I'll be posting another update right around the time that they open in about two weeks.

Is this place open yet? If so will they be showing the Atletico Madrid vs Mallorca game at 11am on Sunday? It's on ESPN3 and probably EPSN Deportes.

It's Catalan (like FC Barcelona) not Spanish.

Excited for this!

Interestingly, Major League Soccer in N. America has a greater per game attendance than both the NBA and NHL. So there is comparable interest in terms of ticket sales.
