Buffalo Powder Keg Festival 2012

Buffalo Powder Keg Festival 2012
By Chris Catanzaro:

The 3rd Annual Buffalo Powder Keg Festival has been set for Saturday, February 11, 2012 and Sunday, February 12, 2012. The festival has a new location, Niagara Square and along Delaware Ave. will host the outdoor events and warmer indoor activities will be held inside Staler City. The people have been heard and the festival aims to showcase so many great aspects of this fine city we call Buffalo.

The outdoor activities include the always exciting Broomball (street version) Tournament, as well as the always contentious rivalry of our city safeguards, Police vs. Fire Games.  The Fire won by a narrow margin last year, but the Police are gearing up to regain the coveted trophy. A BIG, and I mean big addition to this year's festivities will be the Red Bull Buttercup Series, which brings snowboarders from all around the country, and possibly even the world, to compete in an open competition. Be sure to check out the specifics for this event by visiting here. There will also be a Strong Man Competition, Co-Ed Touch Football Tournament, Historical Walking Tours and loads of Kids Activities at Niagara Square.  We are only a month away, but there are sure to be more events and activities added to the list.

If you choose the "warmer" aspect of the festival, you can venture into the beautiful Statler City for a beer, food, live music and more kids activities. Popular events such as the Mark Twain Chili Contest, Wine Tasting, Beer Tasting and many great bands will help showcase this historic venue. The festival is also in close proximity to the Labatt Pond Hockey Tournament and Buffalo Auto Show at the Convention Center.

Any interested parties with other wily sporting and activity ideas can send an e-mail to chriscatz6@hotmail.com.  All others that dare to bare their flare or get more information about the festival can check out the website, www.buffalowinterfest.com.  Hope to see you all downtown on February 11 -12, 2012 for one of Buffalo's premier festivals, The Powder Keg Festival.

I think that Sunday is Feb. 12th.
Looking forward to it--loved the Ice Maze!

I can't wait! I wonder if they'll have to make fake snow or truck it in from the snow belt.

Are they going to have this in Niagara Square if Occupy Buffalo is there? Seems like that might kill the fun a little bit.

Contrary to the Occupy Buffalo statements in the news, it is my understanding that they are not allowed in the Square beyond 2/1/12 and even if they are there, the agreement is that they move for sanctioned city eevnts and festivals.

So does this mean no outdoor beer tent? That's half the fun!!

When are they going to cancel the pond hockey tourney? You know, considering the lake is probably 45 degrees and nowhere near freezing...

Actually the lake was around 39 degrees as of a few days ago.

Yeah, so it should only take ____ days for 116 cubic miles of water to cool down 7 degrees? My money is it doesn't freeze enough for safe conditions in its normal location. Black Rock Channel might freeze.

Too bad they can't make the maze surrounding the McKinley monument, now that would be pretty cool!

I didn't see a mention of ice maze, that was a no show last year, sadly, because it is really the one redeeming aspect of the festival, and the pond hockey which is a no go as well. Bet ya Pearl St Grill is not happy with the move.

Yeah theyre probably not happy. I'd rather have the statler get more attention and revenue to keep the momentum going. Get that money, Croce.
