Local entrepreneurs curate Clutter: An Indie Flea Market
For years people have wondered when Buffalo might get a legit flea market. With all of the talk (mostly by me), nobody has stepped up to the plate to make it happen... until now. On Saturday, October 15th from 12 - 6pm, Sugar City will be hosting a one-day Brooklyn-style flea and artisan market called Clutter that will hopefully be the precursor to a regular scheduled market. With the help of Vanessa Ron, Store Manager of Second Chic (810 Elmwood Ave.), independent vendors will be setting up shop to sell vintage apparel, vinyl, nome accessories, hand screened poster art, etc.

I spoke to Vanessa about the event and she confirmed that if all goes according to plan, that she would consider doing an ongoing series of fleas. "I thought about how many times I've been to the Brooklyn Flea and said to myself, how has Buffalo gone this long without an indie flea?! I've met too many people in Buffalo who have online shops and no one knows about them. Why not make them public?." We also discussed the potential of utilizing a parking lot in Allentown when the weather is nice in order to get people out into an open air market. Vanessa is already one step ahead of the game - due to the vintage retail and fashion industry in which she works, she has already tapped into a number of sellers who have established retail accounts on etsy.com. The sellers have proven track records, meaning that there won't be much schlock at the show... unless it's really cool schlock.
For the entire list of confirmed vendors, please see the facebook event.

Love this idea-makes a world of sense, and something that could be a great activity on a Sat/Sun.
I encourage the organizers to think about consistency, quality and proximity. Also, think about appropriate indoor venues into which this could move (one of New York's most fashionable used to be in a car garage in the 20's. It was the thing to do on a Saturday.)
