Cycling....who the heck cares anyway????

You risk those same injuries when you walk down the streets of Buffalo in winter. In fact there is a greater chance, statistically speaking.
My point being: only a man doesn't wear a helmet. I'm not saying do not wear a helmet, juts make sure your dress fits.
Stop_Monsato [sic], while almost certainly trolling, is correct that in general, bicycle riders are not at a particularly increased risk compared to other activities like walking or driving. I am doubtful that this applies to an extreme sport like cyclocross, however.
Well, they are cycling on the ground and not hard pavement, yes? Hitting the soggy, early November earth of a Buffalo park probably won't crack a skull. Speaking of soggy earth: are there any provisions for repairing the inevitable tire-tracks which will deface the turf? There's a good reason why it's illegal to ride bicycles off the pavement in our parks.
Sorry to make your heated topic irrelevant to this event, but for 'Cross in The Park (like all other sanctioned cycling events) HELMETS ARE MANDATORY!

PS: I am a man and I wear a helmet.
Gladly, let me know what salon to visit and I will interrupt their pedicure and tell them straight up.
Campus WheelWorks donated $150 worth of grass seed last year to repair any torn up sections of grass. For the most part however, there is no real damage to the grass. The tire tracks do not go deep enough to damage the fibrous roots of the grass, so with a little rain and time, the muddied up grass will spring back to life without any help. We also work to avoid any tree roots, to protect the trees. Campus employees donated time to make sure that any left over tire tracks were flatted out after our race. We made sure to spend time picking up any trash, no matter how small. It is important to us that we respect our parks and make sure that we fix anything that is damaged so that Olmsted can properly take care of Delaware Park and so we can continue promoting cycling in the City of Buffalo. Our goal is to bring people into the City of Buffalo, to enjoy our parks and our race. We also encourage them to visit our shops and dine in our restaurants. Great event, just hope people ditch the helmets. Biking with a helmet is like practicing Catholicism, a big no-no.
