Brett Hull, America's Favorite Cheater, Joins Twitter
Comments
Leave a commentThe reason that "Brett Hull Is A Cheater" shows up so high in google rankings is because Hull has purchased approximately 50 of these shirts from our small, local t-shirt company Born in Buffalo. What was supposed to be a small run of shirts in 2009 that paid tribute to *one* of the villains of Game 6 (@JM, with all due respect, "The League & Refs Are Cheaters" didn't resonate as well) has become our 2nd-best selling shirt in the history of our not-yet-three-year-old company...
By the way, we have an agreement with Hull, struck after the sale of the Sabres to Terry Pegula: when the Sabres win the Cup, we give him the unsold shirts to donate to a charity of his choice and retire this design as a collector's item.
It's cool that Hull has purchased those shirts and been good to you guys but his purchase of 50 shirts isn't affecting the Google auto-fill box. Google factors a lot of data into its algorithm but it doesn't include how many shirts you sold as one of the variables. It ranks that high because that's the most frequently searched term that begins with the phrase 'Brett Hull. . . '
@Eliot: We didn't mean to infer that the sales themselves accounted for the google ranking...more like 50 people that are friends and relatives of Brett Hull wear this shirt, prompting people from all over the USA and Canada to search the term on the shirt...that particular search phrase wasn't popular until after it appeared on the shirt!
I remember he used to get so angry when they talked about "the goal" when he worked for NHL on NBC. At least he can take it in stride now. I dislike him a bit less now.
NO GOAL happened 12 friggin years ago. Continuing to complain about it while our team dutifully chokes season after season only reinforces our image as a city full of backward thinking losers. Focus on winning NOW.
LET IT GO, BUF-FA-LO
clap clap clapclapclap
You don't win or lose a series by one bad call. Hull was a great player and I always liked to wath him play.
I think I like him even more now.
I remember walking to my car after that game and how just how unhappy I was. But, 12 years later I can look back and thank him for a memory I will never forget.
OK, It still hurts... :)
well this time we did lose a series on a bad call, bad calls happen all the time but I do not ever recall a championship being awarded on a mistaken call, and then to play cover up was just bush league. To make matters worse a week later at the awards banquet NHL's patsy and yes man Gretzky confirms that it was a goal. Well it must be a goal Gretzky said so.
Nothing against Hull, great player, and it was a great series. Hasek carried that team like no goalie I have ever watched. Roy and Brodeaur will always get the nod but they played on pretty great teams their whole career.

I never had anything against Hull for that goal, it was the League and Refs who blew it. The entire season they made a big deal of the 'Crease rule" even taking goals away from the Sabres (forget Plante or Audette, maybe both) but when the Cup was on the line they let it go.
