The Back Room: Moving Forward
If you're into music, poetry and film, and you're interested in experiencing experimental subject matter first hand from the people who professionally live and breathe it, then we have a program for you. Each Thursday at The Back Room (in the back of Allen Street Hardware) Jon Nelson, professor of music at UB and Doug Dreishpoon, Chief Curator at the Albright-Knox will be hosting an intimate yet dynamic mixed medium art series that will feature the regions top talents and underground creatives.
It was only a matter of time before Hardware launched a series of this magnitude. If you think about it, we have seen a real influx of smaller culturals popping up around the city in recent years - culturals that have given painters, dancers, poets and musicians the stages and backdrops that they need to flourish. Even the front of Allen Street Hardware has become a place where bands and DJs have found welcome exposure to patrons of the establishment who might one day become patrons of the arts. This series should help to take the indie scene to the next level.
The series will be held in The Back Room at the Allen Street Hardware Cafe every Thursday at 8pm and every Sunday at 5pm. Hardware now provides free parking in a large lot around the corner at Wadsworth and Arlington. There is a small door charge.

this is a lot of the same people playing over and over.
That is true. (And I'm one of the people playing over and over!) But... they're just getting this off the ground, and I hear there are already plans for different groups for the next round of concerts (December-February). Plus, giving one group several dates allows it to develop more than one-offs do (which I hope is as interesting for audiences as it is for the musicians). I'm sure Jon and Doug are open to suggestions for different groups (and even non-musical events), so try to talk to one of them after a gig if you have some ideas.
