Saturday Stumper #2

Saturday Stumper #2
Every Saturday I will be featuring an obscure architectural element found in the city, to see if someone can figure out where it is.

We used to run this same sort of post every once in a while, but somehow got away from it.

There are no clues - just a photo depicting the item. I'm sure that there are a lot of BRO readers out there who have scoured the city and have seen just about all that there is to see. Others might learn about some of the more obscure detailing found in the different neighborhoods. Either way, I'll keep mixing it up each week to keep you guessing... hopefully.

Good luck...

That's the Bishop's insignia, so I'm putting my guess on either Old St. Joe's or the bishop's residence. Does the old bastard still live on Oakland St?

Nice sleuthing... it's the Bishop's residence on Oakland - found above the front door.

Curious... his insignia has 12 tassels and a flat hat. Aren't those two features usually reserved for an ARCH-bishop's coat of arms? The rope spiral is definitely that of a regular bishop, though.

Nice to see the bison carrying the flag of salvation on his coat of arms, it reminds me of a butter lamb. The crescent moon and 12 stars are probably a reference to Mary and the 12 apostles.

Charity and service. I'm not gonna go there.

How well do you know the Bishop that you see fit to call him "an old bastard" in a public forum? You may not think much of him or the Catholic Church's work and service for the poor in Buffalo, but you could make your point with a reasonable argument instead of a casual slur.

I say it is on the cathedral downtown.
