Larkin 'U' Building: Move-in Ready

Larkin ‘U’ Building: Move-in Ready

Larkin Development Group has once again breathed new life into an historic building. The Larkin 'U' Building at 239 Van Rensselaer has been transformed from a shuttered Romanesque beauty into new offices for rapidly-growing First Niagara bank. The project restored the building's exterior while adapting the interior spaces for a modern use.

The 60,000 sq.ft. building will be home to one hundred and eighty First Niagara employees which will come from three different facilities across WNY.  Employees from several departments throughout the company (Compliance, Audit, Human Resources, Enterprise Risk Management and the Treasury departments, along with the Third Party Administrators & Claims Service group of First Niagara Risk Management and the document management team of Commercial Loan Administration) that are currently based at the Lockport Administration Center, Larkin at Exchange and leased offices at 282 Delaware Avenue are settling into the newly opened space.

The move into the new building frees up space in the Larkin at Exchange and Lockport office buildings.  There is room in the U Building for additional employees as the bank continues to grow.

Kick ass.

No exterior photos? Get on my bike and look at it in real life?

Howard Zemsky and LDG are doing an unbelievable job with this area. What a no-brainer to invest and develop there: the Larkin District couldn't go down any further, it was already at rock bottom.

I'm inferring that the Lockport office is remaining open?

Its almost looks like it doesnt belong in Buffalo...but a much larger city

It puts to shame all the buildings of this size and character that Buffalo demolished.

With a job density that is starting to rival downtown Buffalo, IS IT NOT ABOUT TIME FOR A LIGHT RAIL EXTENSION TO THE LARKIN DISTRICT AS THE FIRST STEP TOWARD AN AIRPORT EXTENSION. SURELY, THE NFTA CAN AFFORD AND JUSTIFY THE SHORT DISTIANCE TO THE LARKIN DISTRICT AND PERHAPS CENTRAL TERMINAL.

In a city with such minimal traffic delays light rail may never be needed.

exactly...

The only place light rail will be going (if it ever does) is to connect UB North.

Larkin doesn't have nearly the density to justify light rail.

I wouldn't be against piloting a shuttle bus that runs a loop btwn Larkin and Downtown to link with Metrorail. Frequency would have to be 10 mins or less. That would mean two buses and rush out and one at off peak times.

Quality projects do not depend on the size of the city.

That's one of the great things about the BR blog. It's not cynical, but always optimistic.

Demand quality and we will get it.

I just wanted to elaborate...that the large newly paved parking lots at the central terminal would be very valuable to a growing downtown and larkin district if the Light Rail connected to it.

It would also make it easier to reactivate the central terminal as a functioning rail station again.
