Do you have a green home or business? One with solar (passive or active) or geothermal? Are you living or working a net zero lifestyle? If you are, the WNY Sustainable Energy Association would like to know. The group is preparing for the Annual Tour of Solar Homes and Green Buildings. This is a chance for others, who may be interested in learning more from people who live a green lifestyle, to see firsthand what activists are doing locally. There are the high profile green buildings like the Darwin D. Martin House and Babeville that offer tours year after year. These are the projects that showcase Buffalo's forward thinkers who are making a mark in sustainable building in the region. Then there's PUSH's NEt Zero house (image) - an inspiring project that has turned out to be a major collaborative effort between PUSH and student groups.

Who in Buffalo is making strides to make our region green? From building materials to strawbale design, it's important to highlight individual efforts. Last year, 35 sites were featured on the tour and 1500 people attended. The free public Tour of Solar Homes and Green Buildings is being held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 10am to 4pm. The event is part of the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour and the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association's Green Building Open House. For more information, contact Bernice Radle.
