Black Rock Kitchen and Bar is the perfect fit.

Black Rock Kitchen and Bar is the perfect fit.
For anyone looking to do something a little different tonight, you may want to head over to the Black Rock Kitchen and Bar (491 Amherst Street). The Goldman's announced their intentions to open this neighborhood bar and restaurant back in April of 2010 (see history). Since that time, they have been busy with a couple of expansions on their Allentown operation called Allen Street Hardware. Mark also immersed himself into the waterfront by volunteering with the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC). After things settled down a bit, the Goldmans got back to work on the Amherst Street venture, which opens for drinks tonight and food next Thursday.

Black Rock Kitchen and Bar is another big win for Amherst Street, and will help to add to the neighborhood's bar and restaurant scene that continues to flourish. The Sportsmens expansion is well underway, Rohall's Corner has settled in nicely, and neighborhood staples such as Casey's, Barry's and Hilliker's Pastime all combine to strengthen this street as a bar and restaurant haven. The Goldmans have done an excellent job in restoring the historic appearance of the building by repairing the transom windows, restoring the wood floors and the tin ceiling, and recreating a pub atmosphere that rivals the look and feel of Hardware, with its own Black Rock appeal. Nice attention to detail with imaginative colors, purse hooks, local artwork, copper flashings and an overall simple old word look and feel. Black Rock could not have asked for a better fit.

A welcome addition to the Rock, our neighborhood continues to attract new business and interest. Another new developement is the nomination of the Market Square Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places. This district will cover the historic core along lower Amherst St between Niagara and Tonawanda. This is the oldest neighborhood in Buffalo and was once the heart of the original village of Lower Black Rock. We look forward to a positive future for our long neglected and under appreciated neighborhood.

They were also busy trying to convince the NYS Liq Authority to give them a license.

Great looking facade, keeping all original windows and transom speaks for itself. The tin ceiling is not too shabby either. Hope the business is a long lasting success. I'll have to check it out one day.

I stopped in last night for some drinks. Great selection and a cool atmosphere. Definitely a nice spot. I'll be back soon for the food service aspect once it begins.

Wife and I stopped in Saturday evening for a drink, nice renovation and friendly staff. Good beer selection and the menu looked pretty decent. We will certainly be back and will continue to support this neighborhood business.

I went there today for dinner and they tossed me out before I got in. They would not let me park my bicycle out front. With all the people loitering around I left.
