Ashker's Juice Bar and Cafe

Ashker’s Juice Bar and Cafe
After opening on Elmwood in 2008, and expanding in 2009, Comfort Zone Cafe has closed its doors on Elmwood. Fortunately another cafe (and juice bar) was waiting in the wings to take over the space. Over the next two months, Angelo Ashker will be renovating the cafe that will ultimately be open seven days a week from 7am to 6pm serving full breakfasts and lunches, and eventually dinners. "We've installed a full kitchen and will be preparing fresh food with produce from the local farmers markets," Angelo told me. "We'll have fresh smoothies and juices, and a complete breakfast with Belgian waffles in the morning, sandwiches and paninis for lunch, and down the road we're looking to be very creative with our dinners."

Ashker's will eventually introduce themed dinners into its list of culinary offerings, featuring different chefs for different evenings. "We're going to be looking for chefs who have followings," Angelo said. "There should be a restaurant that people can go to where the food changes depending on who is cooking. We're looking for suggestions from the community, to see what sort of foods are missing. We're new to the city even though we have three other restaurants in the region. We want to cater to the Elmwood clientele. I think that people will like what we're doing here. We're happy to be part of the community."

Could'nt they extend to close at least around 9pm? Many people like myself dont' have time during the week to stop in before 6pm

Agreed. There are too many businesses that think its acceptable to be open during the same hours as their customer base -- 9 am to 5 pm. Stay open until 10.

I know I won't be frequenting this establishment, at least not with those putrid hours.

I hope the new owner goes to some length(s) to make this space feel more, well, like a cafe or restaurant. It was so sterile in its last iteration and it did not feel like a groovy, welcoming, and creative environment that one associates with elmwood/coffee houses (Sweetness, 5 Points, etc.) Have some fun with the space re-design.

i'm sorry to have to agree. please, no plastic laminate tabletops this time, or institutional stackable chairs.

Can someone please explain the law that requires such rediculously high railings around any outdoor seating area. They look bad. I understand some owners might be concerned that their furniture might take a walk but is there a reason why that's what I see everywhere in Buffalo? You sit there and you feel like you are in prison. Other cities have much more pleasant outdoor cafe's and I am sure they deal with the same issues.

You could contact the city planning department or the Buffalo Green Code website and suggest that this be reconsidered in the zoning code revision.

The Comfort Zone Cafe will be missed. It never had that trust fund, whismical, hippy/gronola feel of the other Elmwood coffee shops. I loved its human feel, without the trappings of the faux neoliberalism which prevade coffee houses in the Village with their slacker employees and pot breath customers.

yeah, sure, like this the political philosophy of pot-smoking slackers. who knew they were such passionate milton friedman fans?

"Neoliberalism is a label for the market-driven approach to economic and social policy based on neoclassical theories of economics that stresses the efficiency of private enterprise, liberalized trade and relatively open markets, and therefore seeks to maximize the role of the private sector in determining the political and economic priorities of the state."

i frequented the comfort zone cafe for a while but i cannot say i will miss it. i went there, not because i enjoyed its utter lack of atmosphere, but because i knew that lack of atmosphere would prevent it from being crowded. thanks to its austere interior, its uninspired menu and its generic music choices, it was like a ghost town. the lack of traffic meant that i knew i would always find a table at which i could work. coffee shops do not have to be trendy or hipster filled but, like any place, they should have an identity...a sense of place and i hope that the new tenant will accomplish this. good luck.

This is a small juice bar. As far as I know it is probably the best choice in the village as far as healthy and delicious food and drinks are concerned. This place has about a dozen of choices in juices and smoothies plus five or six menu items for sandwiches and wraps that you can order for lunch. They also serve brewed coffees – my personal favorite is hazelnut flavored Jamaican coffee. I typically don’t drink flavored coffees, but this one is an exception because it has both rich coffee flavor and chocolaty-hazelnut accent that goes real well with this dark roast brew. Service in this place is excellent and it has a very pleasant décor where you can be seated inside or out. Best of all, if you go there for a cup of coffee, freshly squeezed juice and lunch your total bill before tips should be just over $10 – and this is a real bargain for the quality of food and service they offer. term paper

Ashker's is a pleasure to visit. All of the employees are extremely accommodating and friendly. This may be attributed to the fact that the owners, Sarah and Angelo, are so down to earth and personable. They make a point to remember the customers' names and make every experience and enjoyable one. So far, I have enjoyed the Basil Rejuvenator, the Zinger, an amazing scrambler, and Sarah's own INCREDIBLE blueberry pancakes.

Just tasting the food, without knowing the background of the restaurant, I could tell the quality of all of the ingredients. Every visit there has been satisfying to my palette, both physically and socially.

Yay, Ashker's!
