Where the buffalo play!

Where the buffalo play!
There's a new LaSalle Park playground that has virtually sprung up overnight. It's situated directly in front of Centennial Pool, and creates an interesting visual for anyone who might be passing by. At first we weren't exactly sure what we were looking at when a group of us pulled into the park this past Monday. As we walked up to the herd of buffalo we realized that they were meant to be climbed on since there were platform stones stationed by each figure. The buffalo were part of the playground. How cool!

Next to the herd was an organic looking playground of the traditional sort, and next to that was a picnic shelter built with posts resembling wooden logs. There were even faux hallowed out tree trunks for kids to climb through. This was one of the more thoughtful playgrounds that I have seen, and fits in great with all of the other amenities and surroundings at the park, including the splash pad. The work on this project is not 100% complete yet, since the area was still cordoned off - the benches for parental units looked to have been recently installed. It appears that the play park is only a matter of days away from opening to the public.

How long will it take thugs to ruin this wonderful addition to the park?

Well if the defecation is targeted at anti-sprawl then I think we need to consider it as a textualized urban art form. I mean how wonderful would it be to see one of those buffalos with an "Amherst" sprayed painted in green with a big red circle and slash through it.

Vandalism is the new urban art, we need to embrace it with positive energy and vigor. It's the ultimate individual human expression, it's real and gritty. It has meaning and power.

May I leave some of this "positive energy and vigor" on your home or car?

Well Derby, I live in Clarence so you would need to know the gate code to do something like that, but that doesn't close my mind to the beauty of vandalart. While I may not get into the city that often I truly enjoy seeing the youths leveraging an open canvas choosing from our parks, cemeteries and buildings to create their own form of expression.

@Samuel > I call Bullsh!t. I've shown scores of houses in Clarence and know there are only two gated communities and only one locks the gate. I doubt you live in one of the 11 houses there because your name doesn't match the owners there. It was a nice try though.

Bersch:

I actually live in the 12th house, we as a community have chosen to exclude you from ever showing this house so it might not be on your radar. May poodle can solve this one for us. Dog?

Mr. Osgood, I would never in my wildest dreams vandalize yours or anyones public or private property, its against the law, I was being sarcastic, but I would love to see the expression on your face if someone did add some "urban art" to your property.

Derby:

I'd would welcome the idea. Maybe we can meet in the park, I'll buy a gallon of oil-based paint on the way, and you can paint whatever art you'd like on my vehicle.

Then we can paint some various paint strokes on the park bench, kick the gallon of paint into the river, laugh, crack a couple cans of Bud, and toast them down, throwing the empties anywhere we please. Open you mind to the new art.

Vandalism is destructive and disrespectful at best. It's the furthest thing I can think of from "urban art."
