Massachusetts Avenue Project - 10% off all food
The Massachusetts Avenue Project's urban farm has been farming Buffalo's West Side for almost ten years. During that time they have remained committed to organic, local, affordable food production, believing firmly that everyone has the right to access healthy food that is both culturally significant and financially obtainable. The farm is part of MAP's Growing Green Program, which employs 50 high school students annually to work and learn in the local food system. Each year the farm produces thousands of pounds of vegetables in outdoor growing spaces, in greenhouses, and most recently in Aquaponic systems. In addition to vegetables, the Aquaponic systems at MAP are capable of producing 30k lbs of fish annually, which are for sale in restaurants and at the farm itself.
MAP also hosts a value added food product business, Growing Green Works (GGW). Growing Green Works is managed & run by urban youth as part of the Growing Green Program, and is produced entirely using local farm produce and local food processors. GGW began in 2005 as an economic education program for youth, giving them hands-on business & leadership training by starting their own social enterprise. MAP has been selling the Amazing Chili Starter and Super Duper Salsa at local stores and shops including Wegmans, Ten Thousand Villages, the Lexington Cooperative Market, Château Buffalo, Farmers & Artisans, and many other local shops. They are also currently doing research and development for other future products.
MAP's produce is sold at its farm (389 Massachusetts Avenue) via farm stand , several times a week during the growing season (starting in May), as well as on the Mobile Market; essentially a traveling farm stand which visits neighborhoods that are typically low-income areas that lack access to affordable, healthy food. Any bike rider wearing the Bicycle Benefits sticker on his or her helmet will receive 10% off of any MAP farm stand or Mobile Market site. Please visit www.mass-ave.org for more details.
