Buffalo Harbor Kayak - $10 off Kayak Rentals, $10 off tours

There are few activities more alluring than those that are both adventurous and physically demanding. With so many of our waking hours spent in front of screens of different varieties, the body can scream for activity, demanding recognition and use. Buffalo Harbor Kayak is a great spot to give your body what it needs.

Cyclists are all too aware of the great advantages that cycling can have on health, especially as they experience the daily endorphin rushes that accompany the exciting physical activity. Buffalo Harbor Kayak thinks that they can help extend that warm, happy rush with even more adventure around the inner harbor.

Bike down to the waterfront and see for yourself. This business (the first business to lay down its stake in the modern waterfront development zone) is offering more joy for the body to experience. Rent a kayak and get $10 off! with your Bicycle Benefits membership sticker and give a self-guided tour of the harbor and canal that made Buffalo what it is. Or, give your mind a treat and get $10 off a tour as well! There are a thousand reasons to love this city, but Buffalo Harbor Kayak gives one more way to experience it without burning up dead dinosaurs.

If anyone wants to see what it's like to Paddle the River check out my slideshow video I made from last year. Definitely a different way to view the Grain Mills.

Here's another one I made this year at Gallagher Beach, kind of boring but gives an idea what it's like to be out on the water.

Keep adding to the list of cheap, great ideas to bring people to the waterfront and enjoy a day on the water...Really like the wharf but the fences and concrete slabs will make it impossible to really enjoy until there gone....

I have been dieing to do this when I'm in town, but haven't yet. I really want to go down the river and see all the elevators but a totally new perspective.

This is one of the more unique things to really show visitors when they come to town!

Love it!

anyone know where good spots are for launching off from if you already have your own kayaks? preferably free from a lot of boat traffic?

Why can't you launch from the Naval Park? It is a public place?

Across the street from the Swanny house, next to the Michigan Street Lift Bridge there's a little dock at the base of the bridge. Back your vehicle right up, park it in the parking lot across the the street.

north of buffalo - it depends where you would like to paddle to

for the Buffalo River, a great place to launch is right on Ohio St, across from Father Conway Park and just past the new park, Peg's Park. There is a DEC canoe/kayak launch site there that is easy to access and doesn't have a ton of boat traffic, and what is does is in a wake free zone. Also, further up the river is a small park on Seneca St called Seneca Bluffs where you could launch from.

for the Outer Harbor, launching from the beach or jet ski docks at Gallagher Beach at the NFTA Small Boat Harbor is great. The only traffic might be jet skis or wind surfers on a windy day.

for the Black Rock Canal, Broderick Park at the foot of Ferry St is a good place too. Occassionally you will get a large boar or the Miss Buffalo, but most of the traffic will be sail boats under motor or crew teams rowing.

also for the Black Rock Canal, a little further south, or for the Erie Basin Marina, Lasalle Park has an old sea plane launch that is great to launch a kayak from. It is a cement ramp from which you could paddle the Canal, into Erie Basin Marina, the Inner Harbor, Outer Harbor, etc - this is my personal favorite place to launch. Although you will see the most boat traffic here, coming to and from the Marian and going in and out of the canal.

hope this helps. happy paddling!

Great info!

Also want to add that they are going to be building a new launch next to the Boom storage, at Hamburg and South. They had a little cluttered one that wasn't accessible but now they're building a new one as part of the storage agreement or something.

Thanks for the launch info. I'm heading out Wednesday and I'm launching from Lasalle (per your recommendation). I normally trudge down to Sturgeon Point, which is another great site -- decent beach with protection from prevailing SW winds & waves.
